When was 12, and starting with a classic guitar, he began his first steps in music with his father who is also a guitarist. A short time later his passion for drums got stronger and entered his first band as drummer till his age of 21. During that time, however, he changed to playing the electric guitar.
When playing classical guitar, he was a member of "Grupo de Bandolins de Esmoriz", one of the most important Portuguese mandolin orchestras. His early influences were mainly classical music, which he started listening to by at the young age of 6, then later, Led Zeppelin, and when he was about 17, Pantera and many other metal bands which were particularly mainstream.
