Interviews with:
Claudio ABBADO, Ernest ANSERMET, Leonard BERNSTEIN, Sir Adrian BOULT, Carlo Maria GIULINI, Otto KLEMPERER, Rafael KUBELIK, James LEVINE, Riccardo MUTI, Eugene ORMANDY, Sir Georg SOLTI, Leopold STOKOWSKI, Herbert VON KARAJAN & Bruno WALTER
This is Robert Chesterman's rivetting collection of interviews with world-class conductors, distilled from recordings made when the author was a producer at the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).

As a veteran CBC producer Robert Chesterman recorded many large-scale musical features for radio in Europe and North America, many of which won Canadian Music Council and Ohio State University awards. From interviews for his series of radio profiles on eminent conductors (Ansermet, Bernstein, Boult, Klemperer, Ormandy, von Karajan and Walter), he prepared the book CONVERSATIONS WITH CONDUCTORS (1976). Further work with conductors led to a second book, published in 1990: CONDUCTORS IN CONVERSATION... THE COMPLETE COLLECTION (first published in 2008) is the culmination of these unparalleled slices of music journalism.
Chesterman's contributions to the CBC were important:. He brought an international musical culture to the Canadian audience. He later emerged as a major facilitator and catalyst of artistic projects in various media.
After retiring from the CBC he continued to work as an independent producer and director of radio programs and films with his own company, Prometheus Productions.
