FYI, the Outcast has an extremely thick edge from the factory. The D2 was tempered to a lower Rockwell to AVOID chips. The Outcast is a solid knife for $60-$70, hardly expensive. Lots of people convex them and report they chop like crazy. Good vod, trying to score a TM right now actually.

I wouldn't call it a rat tail tang, I think of skinnier tangs like the Kabars when I hear that. I'd classify it as more of a "hidden tang" design, it's pretty substantial under the handle.
