It's funny to read people sneering at Schubert's taste in instruments. I love Daniil Shafran's expressive readings of this work on the cello, but some of the prized readings are over-Romantic and self-indulgent, or simply a drag. I liek the sound of the arpeggione. With the fortepiano, it gives a...
