About this user
Born in Pescara, Italy in 1962, Paolo began playing the guitar when he was 14 years old. At the end of the 1970's he began organizing and playing with local bands whose music, flavored by his love for blues and southern rock, were to play an important role in the local epoch-making music scene. The discovery of masters such as John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Ry Cooder along with many others, encouraged Paolo to develop a keen interest in acoustic guitar and eventually his unique finger picking style. At the end of the 80's after many years of intense work, he began participating in many important festivals presenting his own music and sharing the stage with guitarists such as Pierre Bensusan, Peter Finger, Alex De Grassi and Michael Hedges.
l His talent didn't pass unobserved when in '91-'92 he toured with Lucio Dalla, opening his concerts with a medley of his own compositions. Dalla himself defined Giordano as "one of the best Guitarists in Europe".
l In 1992 he took part in the festival "International Guitar Master" (Turin, Italy). In the same year he was also part of the "Time Zones" in Bari sharing the festival with Ralph Towner. In 1993 he was a featured guest at the French Convention ADGPA (Atkins-Dad" Guitar Player Association) and at the end of '94 he published his first album "Paolo Giordano", Step Musique/New Sounds, which received critical acclaim throughout Itay and Europe featuring bassist Michael Manring, percussionist Michael Spiro and singer Patti Cathcart, from the famous Tuck & Patti duo.
l In '95-'96 while maintaining his career as teacher and performer, Paolo participated in Biagio Antonacci's album (a famous italian pop singer) : "Il Mucchio", accompanying him during important televised transmissions. He has been featured in numerous italian television broadcasts including: "Help!" presented by Red Ronnie on TMC; "Good Vibrations" with Ezio Guaitamacchi onTele+3; and "Uno mattina" along with Lucio Dalla on Rai1, as well as many others.
l In 1999 his fame as "acoustic guitar acrobat" spread as far as the United States, where after brief appearances, enthusiastic audiences now await a full scale tour for 2001.
l The year 2000 welcomes the release of "Kid in a toy shop" once again through Step Musique record company with the extraordinary participation of Michael Manring on bass, Jacqueline Perkins on vocals, and Alex Acuna on percussion. The album reflects Paolo's evolution and consolidation in style: a synthesis between virtuosity and intricate sound technique marked by the depth of feeling in the author's compositions.
l In January 2001 Paolo performed in the "All Star Guitar Night" during the NAMM Show 2001 in Anaheim, Los Angeles CA. and in spring he had a lot of positive notes after his show at the Acoustic Guitar International Meeting in Sarzana, Italy.
l In 2002 Paolo was again in the States, in January and in July. During the summer he made again a tour with Michael Manring, and recorded a DVD.
l In the same year he toured in italy with Bob Brozman and Woody Mann and played with Michael Manring at Acoustic Guitar International Meeting of Sarzana .
l In 2003 ...the greatest Paolo's performance : the birth of his daughter.
l He took a break from the road and stayed away from the stage for a while (more than a year ) taking care of his daughter and ...practicing his new technique ....how become father .
l So , between 2003 and 2004 , he only joined to Manring for another italian tour and he took part to Italian Fingerstyle All Stars besides other few gigs in Italy
l At the end of 2004 ( december ) , ready for the road again , Paolo performed again in Marseille and at the Acoustic Music Festival in Pescara ( Italy ).
l Paolo's music, also product of his intense studies of classical music, goes beyond the source of inspiration which marks his melodic line and evocative imagery. His extraordinary technique, which have won him international critical acclaim, is never only an end in itself, but the medium conveying the powerful feelings and emotions he wants to express.
