Just spent 8 days in Waikiki, and we went to hear Troy 3 nights in a row, bought 2 of his CD's. He is extremely talented, and he has a great voice! A must hear and see if you're in Waikiki!

There are probably more Big Bands per capita in Japan than anywhere else! Lots of pro big bands, plus high school as well. Eric Miyashiro has a big band there too!

One thing here is missing...proper rudder input. As a commercial B-767-400 pilot, we are required to show proficiency in V1 cuts every year. It is always sad to see a perfectly flyable airplane end up in the dirt.

The TJO is as exciting to listen to as any big band around, and being middle aged I have had the opportunity to hear all of the big name bands. The TJO trumpet section is always impressive, as is the entire band. And Caravan is a great chart to showcase a bands talent!

The AF 447 pilots simply did not recognize the stalled condition. If they would have looked at (and believed) their standby instruments the situation could have been salvaged. As far as the merger goes, it is the widely held position of those in the industry that Continental will have to bring UAL up to the standards in place at CAL. A few years ago, Continental went from "Worst to First" under the stewardship of Gordon Bethune.

Very nice playing! What brand is this horn? What kind of mouthpiece? I'm going to guess this is a Yamaha.

And for you trumpet players...the lead player (Dan Foster) has his work cut out for him. The lowest note he plays is an A above the staff. Everything else goes way up from there. And this was their encore. Imagine playing this chart after a two hour gig!

Just a tad slower than Buddy, but overall the best rendition by any band (other than BR) that I've heard...and I had the pleasure of hearing Buddy perform this live in concert on several occasions. And that lead trumpet...WOW!

Have you considered attending college at the UNT School of Music? It's the home of the world famous (Grammy nominated) 1O'Clock Lab Band. Many fine trumpet players/teachers here, including Jay Saunders who was the lead trumpet with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. UNT is the largest, and IMO,...

Oh, how I miss Johnny and Doc! What class these men had. It is sad that we have to put up with what passes for entertainment today.

Who is the lead trumpet?

For those of you who do not know, Scott played at least one tour as lead trumpet with Maynard's band.

This is a "killer " chart, and they do such a great job on this tune!

The lead trumpet is Lin Biviano, who was (and is) a great player. Buddy had a reputation for getting angry, but rarely (if ever) fired his musicians. Biviano played with Buddy for a lengthy period of time.

And yes, the clam was barely noticeable, but Buddy was a true genius when it came to music...
