I've never heard Janet Linker's harmonization of that tune, and it's very inventive and exciting. At the same time, I think a congregation singing without really strong support from a choir might find it confusing. I think you'll find that the places with the very best traditional hymn singing ...

Not the most beautifully blended King's choir I've heard. The boys are marvelous, and the individual ATB voices are fine too, but the tenors just don't blend very well. Can't imagine this choir singing early music with this mix of voices.

I wasn't particularly trying to be catty. It just sounds like a rehearsal, with a little mistake here and there. No biggy. I'm sure they got round it all in the service.

What wonderfully musical and heartfelt singing! How much more meaningful than listening to some of the technically and academically perfect but downright icy performances you hear of Bach's music today!

Very nice performance, but better mic placement would have made for a better recording. You can barely hear the choir over the flutes and the rest of the orchestra.

The public burial service for Henry Ford II was held in the same church, St. Paul's Cathedral, Detroit (not St. Patrick's - wrong city, wrong denomination . . .).

It's not St. Patrick's Cathedral, Detroit - it's St. PAUL'S Cathedral, Detroit. Ford was a parishioner there and a friend of the cathedral's first dean. He contributed funds to the construction of the cathedral in the early 1900's.

This may be a very nice performance, but the compression of the audio is so extreme that it sounds like an old Victrola recording of aliens singing through the void of deep intergalactic space - just wierd. Too bad, because it does sound like it was a very nice, expressive performance.

Choir sounds like a girls choir - not boys. Just a guess. Does Gloucester have girls? Or maybe a group like Selwyn College Cambridge Choir . . .

Very nice, spirited performace, but the sound quality of the recording is severely compromised by all the compression. Too bad.

How marvelous. My choir will be singing at Hereford Cathedral this summer, in July. We're looking forward to it. What a privilege.

Wow. I have to disagree with All4Seasons. Sting sounds like an old chorister singing this, which is to say, there's all the phrasing, all the musicianship, all the polish you'd expect from a treble trained at King's or John's. It's done in a more pop style, but the underlying substance isn't p...
