About Me:
I'm a muscular Shinigami with a wild and aggressive appearance that fits my personality. I have a long face with pronounced cheekbones and pronounced hairless eyebrow ridges. I have green eyes with long and stringy black hair. A noticeable trait in my appearance is the long thin scar running down the left side of my face, which I gained before finding my future lieutenant, Yachiru Kusajishi. I am also one of the tallest Shinigami, towering at 202 centimeters (approximately 6 feet 6 inches), making me almost double the height of my lieutenant. My stature is often exaggerated even more for dramatic purposes, especially in contrast with Yachiru's.
I wear a sleeveless captain's haori that has a ragged look to it (which belonged to the previous captain and was taken after his defeat. I style my hair into stiff strands during my baths and attach small bells at the tips and wear a special eyepatch on my right eye, only to make my fights more difficult. Although I'm known to be a violent fighter, My actions tend to be for the best. I have a very poor sense of direction, at times asking Yachiru for help (even though her sense of direction is just as bad). I live for battle and enjoys a good fight more than anything. I even hold back in an effort to make any fight last longer. I also claim that injury and death are nothing but the price one pays for a good fight. Despite my division being the most blood-thirsty squad of the Gotei 13, the 11th Division has its own code of ethics, which is different from the rules and regulation of Soul Society. Despite my tendency to be brutal, I usually stop a fight if my opponent is too injured to fight back, claiming that I'm not interested in fighting "weaklings who can't fight anymore; nor I'm not obligated to deal a death blow to anyone who isn't capable of fighting any longer". However, I will unhesitatingly kill my opponent if they refuse to end their fight, as seen during my battles with Kaname Tōsen and Nnoitra Gilga. On multiple occasions, I have shown to greatly respect those who can defeat me in a fight and to those who can push me to my limit. Ever since Ichigo handed me my first known loss (though Ichigo also considers their fight a loss for him), I considered the latter a member of my division. I also express my willingness to engage myself in a rematch every time we meet, only to be turned down as Ichigo already considers themselves as friends. Nevertheless, I still challenge him in a duel, as evidenced when I aided Ichigo in my fight against the Bount (where I gave "his blessing," stating that in doing so would make Ichigo stronger for "their anticipated fight").
It seems that I sometimes contradicts my own logic in fighting. On the one hand, I wish to increase my own personal power. On the other hand, I conceal my strength to enjoy a fight for as long as possible. Irrational to a certain extent, I am one of the most complex characters in the series, as I exhibit a wide range of traits, being: lethargic, bloodthirsty, rebellious, empathetic, and wise.
Although I thrive for battle, I have shown to have emotions. Me and and my lieutenant, Yachiru, have been close ever since we met and have a father-daughter-like relationship (making Yachiru one of the few people I care for, along with 11th Division 3rd Seat Ikkaku Madarame and 11th Division 5th Seat Yumichika Ayasegawa). Aside from Yachiru, I deeply give meaning to my name. Following my fight with Ichigo Kurosaki, I always talk about the pain of not having a name, as I lived my early years without one. This causes me to feel guilty that my sword isn't acknowledged by its own name. Since then, I have strived to learn its identity.
I also strongly believes that fun comes before working. In every battle, I try to get as much enjoyment out of it as possible. One example is when I sent my 5th seated officer, Yumichika, to fend off the Bount in Karakura Town, as he is the only high-ranking officer who wasn't busy, or rather, busy having fun; as Yachiru was snacking and Ikkaku was napping. During my free time, I always take my afternoon nap. I don't have a particularly favorite dish, but I particularly hate nattō.
My unique hairstyle is partly due to the result of my habit to take a bath everyday before going to sleep, which is a necessity to me due to my strong perspiration. During these baths, I usually wash my hair with soap, making it stiff. I enjoy doing so because it's easy for me to set my hair to my preferred style. I once tried a hair treatment recommended by 1st Division Lieutenant Chōjirō Sasakibe, but my hair became too silky and was impossible to set for a while. Since then, I greatly disliked the lieutenant. I am once shown attaching the bells to my hair, which apparently takes a while to accomplish.
