One huge danger they fall into is listening to too many "regulators," which online we term as "gurus." They regulate what you learn. And if you try to listen to too many of them, you could fall into the huge newbie mistake of information overload.

Lots of new marketers join every list, and get emails from every guru out there. They're asked to buy this, try that, and many of them break their banks by buying everything that comes down the pike. They're so overwhelmed that they get that old cliche "analysis paralysis," and do nothing because they just don't know where to start.

Here's the secret: Follow one person.
I don't care if it's me or someone else. Find the person whose marketing message resonates with you. Find someone you like and trust. Then, follow him or her and forget everything else. Just do what's proven to work and follow that system blindly. Don't make substitutions. Don't ask questions. Just do what the system tells you to do, and do it to the letter.

After you have done this and become successful with making money online yourself, you may want to branch out a little. If you're following someone who's really skilled at lead generation, for example, and you want to learn to drive article traffic, you may want to move to another person's system. That's OK. Back then, kids learned what the amendments to the constitution were and they memorized its preamble. Now, kids are learning less, and nobody understands why they don't know much about citizenship and history. Could it be that they're taking the easy road and not pursuing education outside the classroom for themselves?

The same thing happens in Internet marketing. Lots of so-called "gurus" are out there preaching, "You don't need a website," "You can earn money while you're sleeping," and that "It's so easy!" that people don't even know what the right thing to do is or how hard they have to try to become successful.

First, you definitely need a website. Why? Because you need to build a list. Without a list of people who you bond with and build a relationship with, you have nobody to sell things to. You need, at minimum, a hosting account where you can upload your squeeze page, and you need an autoresponder where you house the names and email addresses for the people on your list.

Second, you can earn money while you're sleeping, but you have to do a whole lot of hard work to get to that point before it actually happens. You need to learn how to drive traffic in all its forms so that you can grow your list bigger and bigger all the time. That takes work.

Third, it's not rocket science, but it's not all that easy, either. You need to learn how to do things like buying a domain, transferring the DNS, and setting up everything just to get to the point of starting any lead generation. Then, you have to learn blogging, article marketing, search engine optimization, and all the other techniques that you can use to send traffic to build your list. It takes time and effort.

How do you get to be a super affiliate?
You start by building a great list of subscribers, and there are many different ways to do that. Let's discuss some of the best:
1. Blogging
You can get traffic and build credibility in your niche easily by blogging every day. This doesn't mean you have to write in your blog every day. You can add videos that you make yourself or find on YouTube. Just be sure they're about your niche. Audio blogging or podcasting is another option. Just talk your posts into your blog. If you already have an autoresponder series of messages written, you can repurpose them as blog posts, too.
Blogs have enormous search engine magic. They are updated constantly, and are easy for search spiders to scan, so your posts can rank in blog directories within minutes. Once you have regular traffic coming to your blog, and build credibility with your audience, you'll be running a super lead generation system.

2. Make Videos
You can put these into your blog, as well as on YouTube and into the other video directories online. Video can't be scanned by the search spiders like text can, so duplicate content isn't an issue. You can make a funny viral video that gets a message about your niche across. Or, you can create instructional videos with screen capture software. Or, you can do talking head type videos where you explain something important to folks. It's all good!

3. Write Articles
Lead generation is strong with article marketing. Write at least one article a week and put it into one of the big article directories, like Ezine Articles, Go Articles, or Articles Base, but be sure not to put the same article out on the Web everywhere, unless you're just trying to get traffic from them and not search engine optimization advantage. Unique content is what search engines love the most, so you should keep your written material as fresh as possible, especially if you're building a search presence for your squeeze page.

Well... that's exactly what you need to do when writing an email to your own list. You need to grab the reader's eyeballs and get them to open up. If you don't, the mail ends up in the recycle bin and your message means zero.

Here are some tips to make sure your emails are being not only read, but clicked on:
1. Create a killer subject line.
This can be something that you saw in a comic book or in the National Enquirer. It can be something funny that someone said or something that just popped into your head that was crazy and weird. Whatever it is... that's the title you should be using.

But, you also need to find a way to tie the title into what you write in the body of the email. Your title must have something to do with what's inside your email, or you'll be breaking the law (CAN SPAM 2003), so find a way to tie your outrageous headline and the body of your email together.

You also want to create curiosity. You want people to wonder what the heck you're talking about in that subject line and open the email. It might be something tied to your niche that everyone is buzzing about, or it could be something in the current events. Use Digg and Stumble Upon and all the social bookmarking sites plus blogs to find out what's going on. Then, just create a title that people are already looking for. Today, it could be something about health care. Everyone is riled up about that, no matter which side they're on.

2. Keep it short.
You really should have only about five sentences or less in your email. Use it to build that curiosity you started in the headline. Create a story around it and get the click. Make people click to find out how the story continues. Make them work and keep them reading. Keep the intrigue going, and don't let them find out what you're selling, until they get to your sales page... Let that take over from there. More intrigue, less explanation is the rule of thumb.

3. Always make an interesting redirect for the product.
Never use long, ugly affiliate links in your emails. In an HTML email, using some cool anchor text (words that are hyperlinked) can send people to your sales page. Or, just use a redirect. Create something from your domain that continues to peak curiosity. Make them want to click that link to satisfy their need to know.

When picking your niche, try to think of something that you're passionate about. What is or was your career? What hobbies do you have? What has been a burning passion of yours?
