Students from all over Orange County, mostly Santa Ana and Costa Mesa are here today to see a master class by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company and the Orange County Performing Arts Center have come together to give a lot of school children an inside look at the arts. "Many of our students do not have the opportunity to come out of the community, so events like this are just great for them to come and experience it." Alvin Ailey started the famed american dance theater company, and when he died in 1989 Judith Jamison took over, this tour is a celebration of her twentieth year. The dance company promotes the uniqueness of African American culture through dance and is committed to the preservation of that culture to school children across the country. In addition to the master class that the Alvin Ailey dancers put on today they'll be performing here at the Orange County Performing Arts Center through Sunday.

This year's Pacific Symphony American Composer's Festival is all about the greatest generation, penned by Tom Brokaw so we thought weíd come to New York City and see what he thought about it. The greatest generation is those Americans who came of age in the great depression and learned the real meaning of sacrifice and common cause and working together they went without more than they had anything and just when they were beginning to emerge from that their country asked them to go to war. And go to war they did. And amidst the dark poverty of the depression and a world at war, legendary music was written both in response to the pain and as a means to distract Whenever you hear glen miller, or any Frank Sinatra in the early days or of Joel Safford any of the great artists of that time, it immediately evokes that time because there was great art that came out of the greatest generation Ö To honor these contributions the pacific symphony and pacific chorale will honor the greatest generation with instruments and voice including a special world premiere piece inspired by Mt Rushmore which is located in Brokawís home state of South Dakota This concert is not just a tribute to that generation but it is a way to bind together generations because music transcends age. In our current circumstances when times are touch and people are looking for answers There are no better lessons than our parents or our grandparents who went through it in a much more difficult time One of the defining values of that generation is that they were thrifty. My mother, if I go see her in Orange County she lives in Laguna Woods if I take something over from Trader Joes she wants to know how much everything that bag costs and then if she bought something for our lunch, she tells me how much it is. And sheís always proud of how much money sheís saved on what was really a very very modest income. Brokawís books the Greatest Generation and BOOM, Voices of the Sixties document not only his parentís stories but many of their time and share the challenges and triumphs and provide inspiration for our time. AND he thinks weíre beginning to listen. People are saying you know weíre all at fault here we all got carried away. It doesnít mean weíre going to go back and live in log cabins with an outhouse weíll continue to live well but I think there has been a kind of welcome opportunity now in this adversity to find a path for the rest of their lives. You get through difficult times by doing the right thing. The Pacific Symphony will bring us a little bit of the greatest generation this weekend the lessons learned and the art. If you've lived in Orange County long enough, you remember orange groves here or there has been a military base. But now we don't have to drive 50 miles to go to big events any more, we've got the Great Park and KooZa.
Emilie Nadeau, Publicist, Cirque de Soleil:
"It's a non-traditional circus, which there's no animals in their shows. And it's a mix of theatrical elements, live music, performing... really human nature, human strength is what's happening on stage is a lot of dance. So it's a mix of a lot of kinds of things. And KooZa is really a return to the roots of Cirque de Soleil. It really focuses on the arts of clowning and the acrobatical acts in the show. It's a show for the whole family. A lot of action, a lot of adrenaline, a very funny show for the whole family. 12 different acts on stage. People can buy their tickets online. Come and see us here at the Orange County Great Park.
Due to some pretty high demand. KooZa has extended their stay here at the OC Great Park till February 14. And today, I saw half-price tickets on Goldstar Events. Come on out and see it with your family. For OCNewsChannel.com, I'm Jennie O'Hagan.

Hours after a series of quakes and subsequent tsunami hit Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga and Indonesia, people from Orange County, and all over, began stepping up to help. For some, relief efforts are truly personal. Garden Groves Samoan Assembly of God church is preparing to fundraise while praying for the safe return of a team of their congregants who were on a mission team in Samoa when the disaster hit. And, the recent Blessing of the Waves held special meaning for Anaheims St. Justin Martyrs choir as they sang and prayed for friends and family in Tonga who have been affected by the earthquakes. The Diocese of Orange Catholic Relief services has set-up an online donation page and Several churches in the OC, like this one in nearby Carson, are collecting food and supplies. The Orange County American Red Cross is sending supplies and volunteers, like Claire Wilson of Fountain Valley to join the greater Red Cross team. Many people have stepped up already, but much more help is needed. OCNewsChannel.com has a list of ways to participate. Blair Shasky, OCNewsChannel.com
