UPDATE:

08.05.09

Hi all!

As some of you might know, my work re. a new Jeremy Brett biography is in progress (yes, STILL!).

Now, I would like to invite you all to participate (but please remember, this is non-profit, so no fees :-) and so far no publication promises)

What you can do?

1. Submit own snapshots (copyright must be secured!!)

2. Write your own little essay on the impact he's had on your life. Can not promise anything, but we'll see...

Will keep posting on my blog (see link below) about recent developments, thoughts on the subject and maybe the one or other excerpt.

Please contact me for further info! :-)

IN ADDITION to that, I am currently preparing for another project to honour Jeremy, his ideals and maybe even render some support to the charities he has cherished so much...

THE JEREMY BRETT MEMORIAL WALK
London, Week of September 12th, 2009

Please have a look at my blog for further details, information and possibilities to participate!!

******************************

Well, about me... I am from Germany and live near Düsseldorf and Cologne.

If you have a look at my videos, you will soon see that this is mainly a Sherlock Holmes and Jeremy Brett enthusiast's channel... no... I think I have to rephrase that: Meanwhile, it is a Jeremy Brett channel with some references to Sherlock Holmes.

Yes, things have changed a little. I... have changed a little.

I came here, like a hundred years ago, to look, among others, for Sherlock Holmes. But I found much more. And so, while I am riding this rollercoaster which is my life, I have found something dear to hold on to.

I am an early fan of the Sherlock Holmes Granada Series, especially when it comes to the unique Jeremy Brett, the perfect embodiment of the master detective. As an actor I have been admiring him for decades.

Eventually I learned more about the "man behind the actor", and thus came to admire him even more. In his struggle against his mental disorder and his care and encouragement for others he has become my constant inspiration. Though I've never had the chance to meet and thank him, I kind of miss him. When he died, the world lost a great guy.

But there are many people who are keeping his memory alive, so he will never be entirely gone. I have the pleasure to have gotten aquainted with some of them here on youtube and elsewhere, and meanwhile have the privilege of even calling some of them my very dear friends. I consider those friendships a wonderful way to carry on Jeremy's legacy...

And I know that some of us are feeling indebted to JB in a very special way - for some of us know more or less from own experiences, what the man had to go through with his illness. To those, though years after his death, he is still rendering mental support, hope and encouragement, and watching the recordings of his performances has often proved to be a soothing treat.

So: THANK YOU, JEREMY!

So, a few further facts about me...
Country:
Germany
Hobbies:
I am very interested in music, which means I listen to it (of course), and I like singing myself and ocasionally work as a singing teacher. I like acting, too, but never became a pro in that area, as my own illness often interfered with pursuing a professional career in the rather unsecure entertainment business. I studied British and American Literature at university and thus, thanks to one of my teachers there, became quite stuck on film sciences, too. I will never forget how I had to write one of my first 'scholarly' papers about nothing more than just the beginning sequence of The Silence of the Lambs. It is amazing, what a skilled film maker can put into one or two minutes of footage! Oh, and yes, I am very fond of books, too. I love stories of the Victorian Age (Sir A.C. Doyle, of course), Jane Austen... but also modern entertainment stuff, history books, biographies, an occasional Shakespeare and much more. And I am trying to be a writer myself. I am currently working on several projects, one is a historical novel about a 18th century paintress (fictional), another is a modern fictional diary, I publish an online literature-newsletter (mainly in German) and - no wonder I suppose - I am currently working on two (or rather three) Sherlock-Holmes-Projects. One is a non-fictional textbook which will include several SH-essays, the other is a pastiche-diary of Dr. Watson, and than I have some short stories to come, too. Currently I am trying to translate the first into halfway appropriate English. It is about Holmes meeting Irene Adler (no, NORTON) in Montpellier during his hiatus. A circle to be closed, so to speak. Most exciting for me is of course my current project of writing a bio of Jeremy Brett...!
Movies:
Sherlock Holmes (by Granada, starring the uncomparable Jeremy Brett) and Sherlock Holmes... and Sherlock Holmes! :-) But I also do like 'Scarecrow and Mrs. King', definitely 'American Beauty' (Kevin Spacey being one of my favourite actors) and 'How to steal a million' with Audrey Hepburn (for my taste one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen) and Peter O'Toole. My favourit sitcom is 'The Nanny' I am quite fond of old Hollywood Musicals starring Fred Astaire or Danny Kaye, though I have to be in the mood for those.
Music:
Phil Collins, Anastacia, Elton John, Tina Turner, Götz Alsmann, The Manhattan Transfer, Mozart, Händel, Vaya Con Dios, Meat Loaf, a little Country, a little Gospel, a little Swing, a little Broadway Classics, Musicals, some Top40... well... a lot of music!
Books:
The Sherlock Holmes Canon, The Silence of the Lambs, Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones, Rebecca, Harry Potter, Memoirs of a Geisha, Daddy Longlegs, Ich bin dann mal weg, The Shoes of the Fisherman, occasionally a textbook (currently, of course, I am hunting for JB-material and Holmes related secondary literature). I'd say, give me 5-10 minutes in a bookshop, and I will certainly find SOMETHING...:-)
