Conservative news organizations are and will continue to focus largely on the unemployment rate during the next couple of years. While I agree that unemployment is an important issue which effects the people of our country directly, I do not agree that it is the best indicator of the state of our economy.
Traditionally, the last thing to recover from recessionary times is the unemployment rate. Even when the money starts moving again, and the economy starts to improve, it takes time for the manufacturers, the corporations and the business people to gain the confidence of a sustained recovery. When re-hiring employees, companies want to be certain that they will be able to afford those employees over the long run. Hence, the standard cycle of recession recovery starts with hiring temp employees and when the economy has shown itself to be out of recession for a sustained period of time that is when companies finally have the confidence to start hiring employees again.
So, why the basic review of recession recovery?
The Republicans will definitely use this to their advantage as they attempt to recover seats in the Senate and the House... and, of course, when they make a bid for the White House in 2012.
Even with if we had an instant recovery, the unemployment rate generally will not recover for 4 to 5 years. The worst of it isnt even over yet, we will see the unemployment rate go up over 10% before it gets better. This being the case, the Republican argument that stimulus programs have not worked will be shown by pointing over and over again to the unemployment rate. Wait and see. In a couple of years youll see Im correct as the Republican mantra becomes Unemployment hit the highest level in decades.
Dont fall for the political tricks. Look at the big picture. Why are Republicans so interested in deficit spending now that Obama is president? When Bush was deficit spending on a war overseas, there was no talk among the Republicans about deficit spending, only about keeping America safe. Now we are spending money domestically to help the economy recover from the disastrous state the Republicans put it in, and they want to blame the Democrats. The worst part, plenty of Americans are stupid enough to buy into it. Dont believe me? Look at the comments on this video. I havent posted this video yet, but if it actually gets any viewers I know what kind of responses will result.
Thanks for reading, and I might as well start now: Re-elect Obama for President!

The recent move by our government to put cigarette regulation under the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) is a big deal, but not for the reason it seems. Most articles and news stories on this recent change in tobacco policy applaud this as both a positive change and a major shift in US policy on tobacco.
This is true, but at the same time, it isnt maybe the whole truth. The big deal is that tobacco companies have effectively lobbied against and avoided this shift in regulation for decades. Further, during that time I have heard that tobacco does not fit into the standards of the FDA and would not be approvable. One of the provisions of this is that the FDA would not be able to place an outright ban on the sales and use of tobacco products.
So what exactly does this change mean? The regulation requires a reduction of the ability to market cigarettes and other tobacco products. For example, point of sale promotions will be reduced including no freebie give away with purchase. Also, the packs themselves are required to have a warning on half the front and half the back, much like cigarette packs in Canada. The big one, is that cigarettes will no longer be able to labeled as light, ultra-light, low tar. Also, flavored cigarettes, including cloves, would also be banned....
....but wait, here is where the whole thing changes around. Why does the biggest cigarette company in the country support this? Simple. There is a huge exemption in this regulation... existing products will be allowed to remain. So there you go, competition effectively eliminated. No new competitors will be able to come on the scene offering light strawberry flavored cigarettes.
Isnt there always some sort of back room deal? Even in the Obama administration, the guise is a healthier policy about tobacco products, and in some ways, it is a move in the right direction, but in the end... it aids huge tobacco companies in locking down their sales, the industry and their power.

California, as every year, is deadlocked on passing the State Budget. This year, California has begun issuing IOUs until the state budget is passed. The Republicans delight in blaming the Democratically controlled state legislature for not having a balanced budget. $25 Billion dollars in cuts need to be made to Californias budget, and although proposed budgets have come close, the Republicans refuse to pass the budget. California law requires a two thirds vote to pass a budget, so even though the Democrats have a majority, they can not pass a budget without at least some Republican support.
The budget impasse has created an effective political tool for the Republicans. The Republicans can blame the Democrats for not being able to pass a budget on time, and, therefore, will use that against the Democrats in upcoming elections.
So, here, I am clearly placing blame on the Republicans, so why then do I say shame on the Democrats? Simple. The Democrats are letting the Republicans place the blame on them. The Democrats need to insist that the voters know the real reason a budget isnt being passed, and it doesnt appear to me that the Democrats are making any effort to do so.
The Republicans are acting as obstructionists for political gain, causing serious problems for our state and disrupting the economy to thousands of state workers and companies under contract with the state. The uncertainty of being paid in IOUs, which incidentally will accrue interest costing California even more, slows down the economy of our state.
The California Republicans have clearly shown that they have their own political interests at heart and not the well being of the people of the state of California, and if that isnt bad enough, they are blaming the Democrats and whats worse is that the Democrats are letting them! Come on California Democrats, stand up and shine some light and the situation and show the people what the Republicans are: obstructionists!

Don't bother watching this video. The title says it all. If that isn't enough for you, read this brief written version of approximately what I say in the video.
Michael Jackson died. Yes he did. Enough already! Michael Jackson was a very successful singer and dancer. Besides his obvious talent, I am certain that Michael Jackson also worked very hard. Society rewarded him generously for his contribution to this planet. He lived to the age of 50, which although I certainly hope to live well beyond the age of 50, it is not quite the tragedy of Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin... to name but a few. I can't believe I forgot one of my all time favorite musicians... Bradley Nowell!!!! What was I thinking when I made this video? Anyway, if you took my advice you haven't watched the video and don't know Brad Nowell isn't mentioned in it! My written descriptions are always superior to my spoken observations... but this is YouTube, whatchya gonna do?
As long as we are giving "not in the video" bonuses, here' s another for you. I read about how Webster's Dictionary is adding "vlog" to their dictionary. How's that for a bonus?
Anyway, Michael Jackson, rest in peace. Now, let's get back to the news!!!!
Oh yea, I almost forgot... I gave a similar speech, I mean, I made a similar VLOG when Heath Ledger died... now that was back when I first started. I wonder if I have improved at all. There you go, don't watch this video watch the Heath Ledger one instead! Yea, that's it. Here's the link:

Hey Everyone, what do you guys expect from me? I am not going to write some long video description for this one. First off, today is the 4th of July. I know from last year that the last thing people do on the 4th of July is watch YouTube. No, instead you are at your barbeque. Some of you are swimming, drinking, setting off fireworks... but there is simply no time for YouTube.
So what is this video about? Well, Im just checking in real quick to let you know that I havent gone away, I havent disappeared, I havent given up. Im still around. Besides being busy with work the last couple of months... (no one wants to hear about work, boring... boo! ) I have also been having fun. Last Sunday, for example, I went rafting on the American River, well, really it is more like floating... but I talked about this last year, so I wont go over it again. Link:
American River Rafting... Floating! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLdmLO...
On Monday, I went and rode Roller Coaster at Six Flags in Vallejo. Long lines as usual, but it is still worth it to ride some awesome roller coasters!
So, If I didnt come to talk about all that, what do I have to say? Simply that I have come up with a title for myself because Vlogger didnt really fit.
I am an Observationist. One that observes and comments. Thats it... I am not an expert, not an authority... just a guy with an opinion. Think of it like party conversation.... not the nightly news. So there it is: NorCalCorsello - Observationist.
