About this user

When I first ran into music I think I was just two or three years old. At that time, thanks to my older sister's refined taste, Gianna, among the quite huge walls of my house I could only breathe the dramatic musical themes by Pink Floyd, W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach, Alan Parsons and L.V. Beethoven. Thus, at the age of six I started playing violin for a few years. At the age of fourteen then I switched to classical guitar, a never ending passion that still plays a key role in my music style. After a couple of years I started studying Jazz and Blues Composition & Harmony, both on electric, classical and even bass guitar (I always loved to express myself through different musical languages and tones). During those years, my first bands and gig experiences came out. I played electric guitar (and just some basic flute themes) in various bands, where I learned to play Rock & Hard Rock, Metal, Progressive Rock and even Punk and Post Punk. I can still clearly recall the very first line up of my very first band yeah, what an exciting memory! This band included Alessandro Bonacci on drums, Francesco Ianni on guitar and Enzo Esposito on bass & vocals. At the time, my main influences became D. Gilmour (his refined taste), R. Blackmore (his unique picking and legato technique), A. Di Meola, I. Anderson (both on acoustic guitar and flute), B. May (his majestic phrasings), S. Howe, S. Hackett (especially their classical guitar approach), S. Harris (obviously his bass ideas), M. Jones & J. Strummer (mostly their instinct and immediacy). A few years later, I started playing Blues, Jazz-Rock, Funky-Blues and even Jazz in a variety of musical contexts (such as in trios and quartets). All these musical experiences helped me (and still do) to develop a quite personal and even versatile approach to guitar. Throughout those years I worked a lot on my picking, on my phrasing and on several kinds of rhythm patterns ideas, trying almost constantly to give voice to my natural (and probably personal) way of expressing myself through music. Just to give you a very basic idea of the track I choose to follow during that period, and on which I am still working quite hard, at that time I was really intrigued by the style of S. Henderson, J. Beck, S.R. Vaughan, Albert King, Charlie Parker, Roland Kirk, Charlie Bird, Wes Montgomery and Jaco Pastorius.

Talking about my interests and occupation, I must say that I am also interested in Cognitive Science and Philosophy of Mind and Language.
Although in 2006 I won a three-years PhD scholarship funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Scientific & Technological Research to work on my research project, between 2007 & 2008 I have been spending a very stimulating as well as productive time at University College London, UK.
In 2009 then I got my PhD with a thesis on Relevance Theory and the Massive Modularity Hypothesis.
