I'm from Iowa and it's legal to open carry in public....but this is a good example of why I choose not to openly carry. People call you in because firearms make them nervous, because anytime on the news they hear about firearms usually has to do with hostile intent.

@96silentdeath depends on what you're comfortable with. I'd go with a 9mm for usually lowest recoil (depending on the pistol) and the accuracy.
