Fascinating video of cable car trains in Melbourne! To think that 1880s -style dummy and trailer trains were still running in 1940 was amazing to a San Franciscan who knew nothing about Australian cable car operations.

You think you have a smart product, but by featuring the Embacadero without the historic streetcars, you have irritated the Market Street Railway, which worked hard to get those streetcars there in the first place.

yes I have seen Fox Plaza. I watched it rise out of the rubble that was Fox Theater, and passed by it for 22 years. I have never entered the property, just passed by the building on my way home.

Oddly enough, the proposed train in the video reminds me of an alternate type of train car that had been proposed at the very beginning of BART design. The type A interior seems to be a typical subway car interior, while the poles of type C are unusual.

Yes, that is quite clear. I was there when they filmed a scene from:"Herbie Rides Again" and I waited around for over an hour while they shot and re-shot the scene. The actual scene ran for 5 seconds in the movie.

This is actually the third cast recording. The first was in 1961 and featured Robert Morse, Bonnie Scott and Rudy Vallee. The second was in 1995 and featured Matthew Broderick and Megan Mullally.

I remember this movie, it was filmed partly at the Univ. of Hawaii Makai Research Station in Waimanolo near Sea Life Park.

Yes, too bad. Only a fraction of the 60 episodes filmed are available and some of those are in poor shape. It ran for six years and is almost forgotten.

This is another version of "A Trip Down Market Street" filmed in 1906, just before the earthquake, NOT in 1909. Here Cable cars (note the slot between the tracks) are running. After the earthquake electric trolleys took over and the slot disappeared.

It's great that Seattle has decided to test Vancouver's new trolley bus.

Wonderful video. I grew up in this neighborhood and remember the cable cars well.

I don't know if Kenosha is smaller than Johnstown, but it's a little like apple and oranges because Johnstown bought their cars when PCCs were still being made and the system closed in about 1960. Kenosha started building their system in 1998 and opened in 2000 with used PCCs from Toronto.
