The choreography might be good, but with all the quick-cut editing and digital effects, it's kind of hard to tell what's going on. Watch 0:09 - 0:17.... no flipping, no spinning, no over-loud score, etc. Just pure, brutal combat.

One of the drinking kids is the bully Spath from the Malcolm in The Middle pilot episode.

My feelings watching this movie:

2 minutes in: "That was a good joke, but man, those backgrounds look fake as hell..."

10 minutes in: "How am I supposed to tell any of these guys apart?"

25 minutes in: "So it managed to carve a perfect oblong hole in the ice block?"

30 minutes in: "Man, that CGI...

This film isn't at it's core about monsters, or aliens, or archetypes of male machismo battling with a creature. It's about fighting a losing battle. About staring the unknown in the eye and fighting until your last breath because it's who you are. It's about humanity.

Agreed. This scene says a lot about Macready's character. He would rather destroy the game than lose. Same goes for their battle with The Thing.

There's a lot of different theories for the mask, and they're all pretty solid - hiding his identity, embracing the film his life has become like, etc... but I think also, the mask is chosen specifically for his face-off with Nino. He wants Nino to see him for who he really is - a freak, a monste...

I own the DVD to this day. Mini camp classic from my younger days. Have never had the guilty pleasure of viewing Snake Eater 3 but #2 shouldn't be hard to hunt down on Amazon...

It's crazy hearing all the laughter in the background, picturing a film like this having a lighthearted production...

This scene becomes retroactively funnier when you watch Best Worst Movie and find out that the General Store Owner is legitimately insane.

This movie didn't succeed on a lot of levels, but this ending is brilliant. If only it had led to bigger and better things. Instead, we got... the rest of the series. :(

Basically, the original run of MGS was a black-label box. A copy of that version now goes for $90+. Later on, there was a bigger release of a white-label box, the most common copy still available.

Sometimes I forget how badass Otacon is. His sister has just died in his arms and he still does what he has to do to save 30 people.

I prefer the ending that follows the 'Push Him Off' choice at 3:02:40. It's more satisfying to see Nicholai get butchered by Nemesis. Also, you don't have to backtrack to imprint the ID card and acquire the rocket launcher.
