Macedonia is Bulgaria. It has been inhabited by Bulgarians since their arrival in 7th century C.E. Back then, it was known as Kutmichevitsa. Macedonia has been part of Bulgaria during many Bulgarian rulers' reign, and when our country fell under Ottoman (NOT TURKISH) yoke, Macedonia was still Bulgarian. During the nearly 500 years' Ottoman rule, this region was also inhabited predominantly by Bulgarians. After Bulgaria's Liberation in 1878, the San Stefano Treaty was made, which included THREE MAJOR BULGARIAN REGIONS - MOESIA, THRACE, AND MACEDONIA. Sadly, Macedonia NEVER became Bulgarian for long again. According to the Berlin Treaty, Principality of Bulgaria should include only Moesia and Shopluk (Sofia region). Thrace was made an autonomous state called Eastern Rumelia, and Macedonia (Vardar, Aegean, and Pirin) remained within Ottoman borders. The Unification of 1885 of the Principality of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia was successful despite the shameful Serbian attempt to conquer Bulgaria in the Serbo-Bulgarian war of the same year (which Bulgaria won, of course). However, our country had to wait for Macedonia. A notable event was creating the first Balkan REPUBLIC in modern history, the Krushevska Republic, which lasted only about a week. During the Balkan and World War I, Bulgaria regained some of its lands, but the terrifying Neuilly-sur-Seine Treaty cut them away in 1919. Dobrudzha (Dobrogea) was for a period Bulgarian, for a period Romanian, and since 1945 - divided between the two countries. World War II brought part of Macedonia back to Bulgaria, but the Soviet and Serbian troops gave it to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and later Vardar Macedonia became part of Yugoslavia, Aegean Macedonia went to Greece, and only Pirin Macedonia was given to Bulgaria. After that, a horror began for Macedonian Bulgarians in Yugoslavia and Greece, related to changing names, severe punishments by the conquering peoples, etc. Bulgaria did not do any of these things because it surely didn't want to mistreat its own citizens. Vardar Macedonia-Bulgaria communication and infrastructure was nearly cut off, and even TODAY there is no railway between FYROM and Bulgaria. During Yugoslavian times, some politicians decided to make a fake nation, language and people in order to spiritually separate Bulgarian Bulgarians and Macedonian ones. That's how "Macedonian" history, language (I'm referring to Krume Kepeski and Blaže Koneski, or Blagoj Konev), and nation were made. Serbs and Serbomans created all this knowing they cannot make Macedonian Bulgarians Serbs, and decided to give them national identity different from all surrounding countries. Vardar Macedonia remained in Yugoslavia until 1992, when it declared independence. The first flag of Macedonia was the Star of Kutlesh, or as Greeks call it - the Star of Vergina. From then on until now, Greece hates FYROM because it has stealed Greek history, Greek heroes (Alexander the Great), Greek names (the very name MACEDONIA), and Greek symbols (the Kutlesh/Vergina Star). Since Yugoslavian years, Albanians have become demographically invading FYROM and now are about 23% of the country's population (which is about 2,1 million with more than 500,000 Albanians). Western FYROM is recently almost wholly Albanian. The Serbian relationships are still very good, and many of today's politicians are Serbomans. The "Ancient Macedonia" epidemy has attacked FYROM. Nowadays, people from this made-up country say they hate Albanians because Albanians are Muslims and they continue multiplying in number. Macedonians also say they hate Greeks because Greeks "steal their history and identity", and the same goes for the Bulgarians, with the difference that Greeks are pure Orthodox people while Bulgarians are "Tatars", a Turko-Mongolic tribe that has "conquered their lands". Very few FYROMians say they hate Serbia although Serbia has also conquered Macedonian lands. This is how FYROM looks like today, and some desperate attempts of Macedonians to produce clues Bulgaria has insulted them or has stealed another thing from THEIR national identity, take place in recent years, like the Spaska Mitreva case. Will the whole of Macedonia unite and join Bulgaria in the future? Nobody knows, but there IS a hope, and there ARE some FYROM people who understand Bulgaria has been their past and should be their future, like the former prime minister Ljupčo Georgievski, who got Bulgarian passport and became a Bulgarian citizen in 2006-2007.
