Nikki, by now I am sure that someone has explained the character distinction between Selena and Sonja. At the risk of being trite and redundant Sonja is the only trueblood daughter of Victor. He only raised Selena as his daughter. Sonja falls in love with Lucien, who, as you know, is a Lycan. Victor and the familial elders sentence her to death. I recommend watching the trilogy sequentially as the subtilties and fast paced action become less problematic...... Best regards, Montanus........
