@wattsta07 I think it's selfconscious. Apparently a huge fall from the greatness of Altars into this (although this is a fine album too). I was a few months old when this album was released, but I've heard there was a lot of fan backlash at the time...

Not very good stuff for black metal here. Well known, professional bands, but nothing very ingenious. Would've loved to hear something from albums like By the Blessing of Satan, Satanic Black Devotion, Ugra-Karma, Forgotten Legends, Graveforests and Their Shadows, and maybe some early Gorgoroth too.
