About this user
I don't get asked this ever, but I'll put a little bio here anyway. :p
I've been playing for about 2.5 years now at the time of writing this (April 9th, 2011, keep that in mind lol) and drumming is a big passion. I never thought of myself as a musical person, because I had played a couple other instruments in my music class and I was never that great. It was one day on a trip to Cuba; I was eating supper and there was a latin band playing, they asked if anyone wanted to try out a really easy percussion part in the song and play along with them. I decided to give it a go as I had never really had an opportunity like that before. I started playing and I could just instantly feel the rhythm of the beat. This was probably the incident that got me to pick up my first pair of sticks, later that year.
I asked my teacher if I could try percussion, and she gladly allowed me. It all went uphill from there, and eventually I got my first, and current drum kit, a Roland TD-4. The next year or so, I was invited into my town's enrichment band to play drums. This was an amazing experience, and I was always so happy to play for a crowd. However, this performance lifestyle has died down now that I go to high school, but I still play percussion in my repertoire and music class bands, which I will be performing with later this year. This "percussion" label includes mallets, drums, and auxiliary percussion.
I'm talking about myself as if I've had some fruitful glorious career, but no, I've only been playing for a short two and a half years as I mentioned previously, and I'm still very much learning how to play. I have a loooong way to go, but I'm so glad to be going down that path as a musician, it's definitely my passion. I'm almost entirely self-taught, with only basic skills taught to me by my elementary school music teacher. I've never really wanted to take lessons, and I'm not sure if I ever will; I'm a pretty independent guy. :)
I'm currently also learning how to play guitar, as of January, 2011, and I'm really enjoying it. This is another instrument that has seemed to tick with me quite well. When I get much better, which may take months or years, I'll definitely upload some videos of my playing for you guys. :) If you read this, congratulations, and thanks for supporting my channel.
