I've solved the mystery!! I put my thinking cap on and I think the episode you mean is 'A Lawman's lot is not a happy one' Hoss is temporary sheriff and gets into loads of trouble with a reluctant bridegroom and a couple of swindlers and Joe ends up as sheriff with Hoss in jail!! Does that sound right! Lol!! Let me know if you would like to see it again. :o)

Been thinking about the mystery episode. The one where Joe is in jail for taking his hat off in church is Customs of the Country which is on YT.

I also have 'Enter Mark Twain' but it is from Season 1 which has now been released officially and there may be copyright problems and I could lose my channel. I believe shakeybird is doing episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 so she may be able to help you. The other episode you mentioned has me intrigued! I thought I knew Bonanza backwards but I just can't remember the episode you describe. I'll have to go through my copies now until I find it!! It may take a while because I have them all but if you could come up with some more information it might make it a bit quicker. Thank you.
