New Moon rose to the #1 position on the New York Times Best Seller list for Children's Chapter Books in its second week on the list, and remained in that spot for eleven weeks. It spent over 30 weeks in total on the list.


The film adaptation for New Moon is scheduled for release in late 2009 or early 2010,[7] with a tentative release date of November 20, 2009.[8] It is based on the novel and is the sequel to 2008's Twilight, which is also based on the novel written by Meyer. Summit Entertainment greenlit the sequel in late November 2008, which will be directed by Chris Weitz, with Melissa Rosenberg returning as the screenwriter. The draft for New Moon was handed in by Rosenberg during the opening weekend of Twilight.[9] Kristen Stewart reprises the role of Bella Swan, a teenage girl who falls in love with vampire Edward Cullen, portrayed by Robert Pattinson.
