About Me:
When i was either 4 or 5 years old, I went to a doctor's office with my mom. I was sitting on her lap and I was staring at a fire alarm pull station on the wall. I later found out it was an ESL Pull. On that same day the fire alarms sounded! On the wall they had an alarm with a strobe light--I later found out it was a Vibratone 450 horn with a non-ada VALS "iStrobe" on it. There must have been two systems because I also heard what I later found out to be a 7004T. That must have been what started it all! Later on I went to elementary school. They had a Simplex system. I heard that one frequently and noticed the alarms. When I began to get good at reading, I started to notice brand names. The first four brands I could recognize were Simplex, Wheelock, Gamewell, and Edwards. Building blocks... and I started telling apart the different alarms. I noticed a Wheelock labeled T-bar that was slightly smaller than the Simplex T-bars at the elementary school and I thought to myself "Copycats". Oh yeah and I even drew fire alarms on paper with crayons. I drew a 2903+2901-9806(obviously not knowing what it was) and a 4903-9219. To this day the pcture of the 9219 is still taped to the wall in my dad's shop! Eventually I lost interest for a while but I still noticed alarms.
When i came to the junior high in 2004, things changed a bit. I saw a really old alarm I had never seen before (4051+4050-80). After that I saw 4903 alarms all over the place and thought "I'll finally get to hear them!"
Fast forward two years--December 2006. My friend sent me a video he saw on Youtube of a siren in somewhere called Essex in england. He said it was loud and that he would not want that near his house. After I watched it I saw similar videos... then eventually I stumbled upon Federal3t22's video of a 4050 horn. THAT DID IT. I discovered that people collect fire alarms... then I found the forums (the ones that shall not be named on here). In the spring of 2007 I got my first two alarms-- an Edwards Fire Bell from 1958 and a Simplex bell from the 1970s. Then later that spring I went to a local Faraday alarm distributor and installer (who probably went O.O.B. because they seemed to never get customers). I got two pull stations and two signals. After that I made deals and got even more alarms and my collection grew. I learned about alarm systems and installed my first major alarm system. Later on at the end of the year I pulled what is probably one of the biggest moves in the alarm community-- I built the first 8005. Later on I visited a Simplex office, then a year or two later I visited a Notifier office. After that I grew out of the obsession part as I grew up and now it is just simply a hobby. I discuss stuff with people here, occasionally add to the collection, and I do the system test videos every once in a while.
