Husband & wife team learning to fly on our beloved Super Cubs
About Me:

Early spring 2008 I decided to get back into model R/C flying and did some research on a good trainer to learn on again. After reading several forums it seemed the Hobbyzone Super Cub was the one to buy. The first day out was just like most of the vids you see on YouTube with lots of crashes... trees, fences, curbs... anything that you could hit, I did!!! The Super Cub is a amazing plane! Out of all the crashes I only had to replace the cowling twice, buy several props and glued the motor mount back in place once. When I bought my plane I also bought all the spare parts so I wouldn't have to keep going back to the LHS which led me to building my wife's trainer plane called Z's Cub.

We decided for her plane that I would cover it in EconoKote Cub Yellow, replace all the electronics, add ailerons... pretty much make it a true trainer plane. We also bought 2 DX6i with AR6200 Rx's so we could buddy box them together...(FYI the DX6i can only buddy box with itself unless you buy the more expensive DX6, DX7 or the even more expensive JR Ts'x).

After flying the wife's plane with all the upgrades, I just had to have my own! Again I bought all the parts and built another modified cub for me with a different cover scheme. This plane too has upgraded electronics, ailerons and some basic mods to make certain areas stronger without changing the stock look or parts of the plane.

We decided to give the original cub that I learned on a facelift with white EconoKote but keep it completely stock except for adding a Li-POLY battery.

Both my wife and I have truly enjoyed these Super Cubs. The stock plane is very easy to learn on and the parts are cheap to replace. Upgrading the Super Cub makes it a completely different flying machine! Adding ailerons makes it an excellent trainer!!

We hope you enjoy the videos of some of our Super Cub adventures!

I've just added a 20 part tutorial on how to scratch build a Super Cub... be sure to check them out!
