Music lover, rocker, metalhead, musician, writer, and filmmaker.
About Me:
I am a music lover. Far be it for me to really say what is the "best" genre of music", though, for I do not believe that anyone has the right to make such a statement. For the most part, there is no objective "marking standard" of quality that holds any water, because everything is different to all individuals.
While I am best known as a metalhead (and more recently, simply as a rocker, for I think that much wider term suits me better) I love rock music in virtually all of its myriad forms. I conform to no standard held by any one subculture.
More than just rock, I love music period. I'm big into classical, ranging from baroque from the 17th century through to the 19th, 20th and beyond. I also love a bit of funk. I also enjoy good hip-hop. Hip-hop, like every genre, has its good and bad points. A lot of old-school rap rules, as does (some) modern rap, but for the most part, Eminem is (pretty much at least) the only newish commercial rapper whose music I actually like. I am far from an elitist, but I despise the likes of Lil Wayne and Kanye West.
Back to rock, pretty much anything and everything fits the bill. My favourite stuff at present generally falls into the categories of classic metal, thrash metal, death metal, groove metal, power metal, glam/pop metal, hard rock, alternative rock, and "classic rock" (as in, Queen, The Beatles, etc). I also enjoy some New Wave and old glam rock. As for alt-rock, it's something I enjoy a lot in general, from the 80's through to now.
Some electronic music appeals to me a lot. I love a bit of dubstep every now and then. Trance is also interesting. The rest I usually find boring, but at a certain time and place it can be good too.
I enjoy extreme metal but I find a fair amount of it - mostly on the black metal side - to be depressing, unpleasant, and boring. Don't get me wrong, I do love death metal, especially old-school death metal and melodic death metal, and some old and occasionally new black metal. The latter, however, has become a lot less interesting to me in recent times, although I am looking into the folk and viking side of it.
Death metal, on the other hand, I enjoy a lot, but not the stuff that's just pure aggression and little else. For this reason I can safely say I'm not a fan of the brutal death metal scene. Old school, melodeath and technical are my favourite subgenres.
In my own compositions, my influences are extremely wide and varied.
Filmwise, I love all kinds of thrillers (particularly psychological thrillers and film noir), horror, fantasy, adventure, epics, comedy of almost all kinds, action, and sci-fi. Pretty much anything but chick flicks really.
I respect all peoples' lives regardless of who they are. As for their opinions, however, I try to do the same, but I find it much harder to respect the (musical) opinion of a person who hates rock and/or metal. Anyone who comes here saying that metal and rock is crap should really just grow up because A. It's pretty stupid to hate good music, and B. What does it say about the people doing the bashing? Sure at the end of the day it's all subjective, and no matter how much praise rock as a whole gets and has always gotten in general from many, many, many differing sources (which demonstrates just how wide its appeal is), there's always someone who won't like it - just like with every other genre, be it rap, classical, electronic, whatever. And that's fine. Nevertheless, people should think before they post - try to respect the viewpoints of all others while not in any way disregarding their own views.
In my personal opinion, and I am fully aware it is completely subjective regardless of how many I'm sure will agree with me (perhaps more than would disagree even), Rock, even in its weakest forms, always requires some degree of real musical talent that has nothing to do corporate manufacturing. The most commercial of all rock bands are still, at the end of the day, rock. That's all I'll say on the matter.
So yeah, I'm definitely a very open-minded person with extremely wide tastes. If I like something, I like it. I don't hate any band or artist for trivial reasons. In fact, I try to hate nothing at all.

In classical (all periods), Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Bruckner, Mahler, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Vaughan Williams. In hip-hop, mostly old school: Dr. Dre, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Run D.M.C, Ice Cube, and the like, with Eminem being of of very few modern rappers whom I like. I also enjoy some funk such as Stevie Wonder and James Brown, and some electronic music, notably dubstep. In total, fuckloads of different music. I'm a theist now, not strictly or literally Christian, just symbolically, and more philosophical when it comes to God. But whatever, if anything I'm way more open-minded as ever, since we last talked!
Music is my religion though, so cliche but it's true. And email me about my band. We should definitely keep talking!
