Part 2/4. The Great Central Railway's 'Winter Steam Gala'. Filmed on the 28th January 2012. This event took place over the weekend of the 27th, 28th and 29th of January. With 10 steam locomotives, action to be seen included double-headers, TPO's, freight and of course passenger trains. Locations used in this video include Woodthorpe straight and bridge, the approaches to Loughborough Station, Kinchley Lane, Rothley Station and Leicester North Station.
Steam locomotives to be seen included GWR Hall Class No. 4953 'Pitchford Hall', SR King Arthur Class No. 30777 'Sir Lamiel', BR Standard Class 2 No. 78019, LMS 3F 'Jinty' Class No. 47406, N2 Class No. 1744, LMS 8F Class No. 48624, BR Standard Class 7 No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell', GCR 04 No. 63601and BR Standard Class 2 No. 76521 from the home fleet. Visiting the line from the Swanage Railway was SR M7 No. 53.
In order of appearance; we first start at Woodthorpe where we see No. 78019 (leading) and No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' double-heading a passenger working towards Leicester North, No. 63601 light engine in the same direction follows, No. 4953 'Pitchford Hall' light engine also heading towards Leicester North, No. 63601 with mineral rake heading towards Loughborough, No. 47406 with a passenger train for Leicester North, No. 78019 with the TPO rake towards Loughborough, No 30777 'Sir Lamiel' with a passenger train for Leicester North, No. 4653 'Pitchford Hall' heading light engine back to Loughborough, No. 63601 with the mineral rake again, this time heading towards Leicester North, No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell with a passenger for Loughborough, No. 8624 light engine towards Leicester North, No 4953 'Pitchford Hall' heading in the same direction with the TPO quickly followed by No. 53 with a passenger train for Loughborough, No 47406 returning to Loughborough with the mineral rake, double-headed Ivatt's No's 46521 (leading) and 78019 heading towards Leicester North with a passenger working and No. 1744 also heading towards Leicester North with a passenger working with No. 8624 passing light engine in the opposite direction.
Moving to the approaches to Loughborough Station, we see No. 8624 with a mineral train heading out of the station, No. 63601 stoping at a signal check before re-satrting it's TPO train to head into Loughborough, No. 53 heading away from Loughborough with a passenger working and No 4953 'Pitchford Hall' stoping at a signal check as No. 47406 heads a freight train towards Leicester North.
At Kinchley Lane we see No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' with a TPO train heading towards Leicester North shortly followed by No. 8624 with a freight in the opposite direction, No. 53 with a passenger train for Loughborough followed in quick succession by No. 78019 (leading) and No. 30777 'Sir Lamiel' double-heading a passenger train working towards Leicester North, No 47406 with a TPO for Loughborough, No. 46521 with a passenger working for Leicester North, No. 63601 heading light engine in the same direction, No. 1744 with a freight for Leicester, No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' with a passenger for Loughborough, No. 30777 'Sir Lamiel' in the same direction with a passenger working, No. 4953 'Pitchford Hall' with a passenger working for Leicester, No. 46521 with a freight for Loughborough, No. 8624 on a mineral train for Leicester and No. 1744 light engine for Loughborough.
At Rothley, No. 78019 is seen departing for Loughborough.
The highlights had to include seeing M7 No. 53 visiting from the Swanage Railway, the return of BR Standard Class 7 No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' to the GCR and the return to service of Ivatt Class 2 No. 46521 (and more popularly remembered as 'Blossom' for the tv series 'Oh Doctor Beeching'). This event also celebrated 04 No. 63601's 100th birthday.
