Your friend may have had some experience in a kayak but that's not the same thing as being an experienced kayaker. If he knew some of the most basic stuff about kayaking and rivers he would have known that what did happen was exactly what could happen.

3. That bouncing shit may be fun, but you apparently can't control your rappels. Unless you want one of those out of control rappels to be stopped by the ground instead of friction you should work on managing a steady, controlled speed.
