Take 30,000 people from 50 cultural groups, put them in costume and give them music.
And you have the Immigrants Parade in Manhattan, New York, on the Avenue of the Americas.
President of the International Immigrants Foundation, Edward Juarez, tells us why this annual event is so important.
[Edward Juarez, International Immigrants Foundation]:
The purpose of the event today is basically to enlighten the American people about the cultures of our society. It's also an opportunity for all of us to celebrate who we are; how
proud we are to be American, from different cultural backgrounds.
The diverse cultures of South America, including Columbia, and Bolivia, entertain
crowds.
[Nelly Zapata, Bolivian Dancer from Virginia]:
The Bolivian population, maybe half a million. Yeah we are in the whole United States. We want to show them that we have different dances.
And parts of Asia like Thailand, Tibet and Taiwan.
[Keren Murillo, Born in Israel]:
The United
States is made up of immigrants and its good for everyone to be involved in celebrating who they are.
Albanians from Kosovo were also represented.

להקת אמנויות הבמה שן יון קוצרת שבחים מאקדמאים, ידוענים ופקידי ממשלה בכירים. כעת מצטרף אליהם אליוט קריסטל, ממנהיגי הקהילה היהודית בלוס אנג'לס, שצפה במופע באורנג' קאונטי, קליפורניה.
אליוט קריסטל, הקרן היהודית, לוס אנג'לס: "אני חושב שמה שקיבלתי מהמופע זה את ההכרה למה כולנו שותפים יחד כבני אדם. אתה יכול שנות את קבוצת האנשים, אתה יכול לשנות את התרבות המסוימת, אבל אנחנו שותפים בכל כך הרבה, במונחים של סיפורים העוסקים ברדיפה, או בקשיים או בטרגדיה, ואנחנו מביעים אותם דרך ריקוד ומוסיקה. ולראות את זה בדוגמא המסוימת הזאת כפי שהיא מתבטאת כאן, היה נהדר".
מר קריסטל התרגש עמוקות מהשן יון, אחרי שראה את המופע במחוז אורנג' בקליפורניה.
אליוט קריסטל, הקרן היהודית, לוס אנג'לס: "זה גורם לך לתהות אם למדנו משהו מהעבר, כיוון שאנחנו ממשיכים לעסוק באתגרים חדשים ובהתבטאות חדשה של אנשים המנסים לשלוט באחרים. אנחנו יכולים לראות זאת במונחים של סין בתקופה הנוכחית. יש שם מנהיגות חדשה ששולטת במדיה ושולטת בהזדמנויות ובאפשרויות של העם".
למרות ששן יון כוללת את התרבות הסינית העתיקה בת ה-5,000 שנה, היא גם יוצרת הופעות העוסקות ברדיפת הקבוצה הרוחנית של הפאלון גונג בסין.
אליוט קריסטל, הקרן היהודית, לוס אנג'לס: "מה שאתה רואה כאן זה תחושה של הישג, תחושה שטיפלת בטרגדיה מסוימת, של כיצד מנהיגים עלו וירדו ואיך אנשים היוו חלק בלתי נפרד ממדינה ושושלת. ולכן אתה מקבל תחושה מסוימת של היסטוריה, ואתה רואה כיצד אנשים הסתגלו לנסיבות מסוימות אלה במובן ההיסטורי הזה".

כדי להעלות את איכות חיי תושביה עיריית ניו יורק סגרה כמה רחובות מרכזיים לתנועת כלי רכב ממונעים. הולכי הרגל נהנים אך נהגי המוניות מתלוננים.
העיר ניו יורק עומדת בקצב הטרנד של ערים כמו לונדון וקופנהגן בהפכה לידידותית יותר להולכי רגל.
לרוחב חמישה בלוקים מרחוב 42 ועד לרחוב 47, נסגר הכביש בברודווי לתחבורה ממונעת.
תיירים ומקומיים יכולים כעת להשתרע על כסאות נוח ולהתחמם בקרינה של אורות הניאון.
ג'וש אקמן, תושב ניו יורק: "אני אוהב את הרעיון. אני חושב שזה רעיון מצוין לעיר שיש לה אזור שלם פתוח לציבור ואין תחבורה שנכנסת כל הזמן".
כיכר הטיימס סקוור היא האחרונה בסדרת תכניות ערים הכוללת שבילי אופניים נוספים ואזורים אחרים ללא מכוניות.
ג'יימי אוונס, תושבת ניו יורק: "אני לא יודעת מה הטעם בטיימס סקוור אם אינך יכול ליהנות ממנו. אני מתכוונת לכולם. זה תמיד כל כך צפוף, זה ממש מהמם וכעת אתה יכול למעשה לראות אותו".
מספר נהגי מוניות כפי הנראה אינם ממש נרגשים מהשינוי.
מ.ד חסאן, נהג מונית: "מהסנטרל פארק ועד לטיימס סקוור ישנה תנועת מכוניות צפופה שם, כך שאיני חושב שזהו הרעיון הכי טוב עבור פקקי תנועה, אבל אם הם רוצים לקדם את היופי של העיר זהו רעיון טוב".
פראדו דילאפו אומר שלצמצם תנועת מוניות בשדרה מרכזית אחת יפגע בכיס שלו.
פראקו דילאפו, נהג מונית: "זה גרוע עבורנו כיוון שכשאנחנו תקועים בפקק איננו יכולים לעשות כסף. אנחנו מאבדים זמן. אנחנו מפסידים כסף ומסיבה זאת רבים מנהגי המוניות אינם רוצים להגיע לכאן בגלל הפקקים".
האזור הנוכחי להולכי רגל בטיימס סקוור ביחד עם אזור דומה בהמשך של ברודווי הם רק בגדר ניסוי.
ראש העיר של ניו יורק, מיכאל בלומברג יחליט בחודש דצמבר אם הם יישארו כך או ייעלמו.

Students: Ni hao, xin nian hao.
Just by listening to these voices, you would think that you are at an elementary school in China.
But these students, from East Orange Community Charter School, are looking forward to the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
After one grade saw the show last year, all the other grades wanted to see it.
[Jennifer Wien, Teacher]:
The boys and girls are really excited about going on a trip and learning a little bit more about the Chinese New Year and Chinese culture.
After seeing one of the flyers, this student couldn't wait to see the show.
"This is just what I remember. Yep, yep, same as what I had.
Their principal, Harvin Dash, says the school uses many different methods to educate the children, and the Chinese New Year Splendor really broadened their horizons last year.
[Harvin Dash, Principal]:
Oh Miss, the dance at the Radio City Music Hall is excellent. So the kids got a lot out of it and made me overwhelmed and happy to see that I could do that.
Mr Dash now has the school board sponsoring a grade of students to see the show every year.
[Harvin Dash, Principal]:
Watching the program it gives you a feeling of warmth, and it kept our kids focused. On the bus coming back, they just talked and talked and talked, so I know everybody had a good time and it was worth the effort.
Board of Trustees chairman Toddy Brown says the performance takes the childrens education to a new level.
[Toddy Brown, Board of Trustees]:
A lot of people wear dark colors, when they see all those light colors like that, that encourages the kids to wear different color clothing like that, that they enjoy themselves like that. And the textures and the dancing, so many kids want to learn how to dance like that. Instead of them thinking in a small ball like that, now their mind is is out now.
After watching the performance, this student wrote an essay saying that Chinese people dance very beautifully, and they can use their costumes to transform in to pictures.
Another student wrote: "All the performers were smiling, encouraging me to be more happy."
Mr Brown said he was also astonished by the beauty of the show, just like the students.
[Toddy Brown, Board of Trustees]:
When the show is over with, you know, usually, the people will just applaud, but they gave them a standing ovation two times, because they really loved it. I saw people crying, because it touched their heart like that.
