The NSW Reconciliation Council is the peak body for reconciliation in NSW. The NSW Reconciliation Council works with reconciliation councils in other states, government agencies and other organisations to continue the work of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation (1991-2000). The NSW Reconciliation Council supports a network of 60 reconciliation groups to advance reconciliation and Indigenous social justice in their regions. The vision of the NSW Reconciliation Council is: A Reconciled Australia. Our purpose is: To advance the reconciliation process in NSW through the promotion of equitable and just communities that acknowledge and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and values. We aim to achieve this by: Respecting & acknowledging the original Australians as custodians of the land. Recognising and respecting the diversity of Aboriginal Australia. Recognising the right to self determination. Reinforcing the role of social justice and rights. Respecting Elders and their role as community leaders. Acknowledging the importance of youth participation. Working together for a better future for all Australians.
