Thanks for that info. I recall as a young child seeing a short film about sightseeing in London and when St Paul's Cathedral was shown the opening bars of this piece were heard. This was the first time I had ever heard it. Any idea if this is why it's called this?

Lovely playing. Meticulous attention to the trills! Tempo just so serene. Lovely toned piano, especially in the middle to lower octaves. Wish all Youtube musicians were as competent as this one.

My favourite setting for these concerti. Lovely acoustic and superb organ playing. A delightful feeling of space and airiness here. This is gold stadard stuff.

A grave piece sensitively played. I've heard this on organ and the piano really does it justice. This particular instrument has a nice rich bass sound. Very soothing on the troubled breast! Lovely unhurried tempo as I'm sure Bach himself would have approved.

Thanks for that info. Never thought of it like that before. Great recording of this piece is by Anton Heiller on the Marcussen organ of the Marya Kyrka Church in Helsingborg, Sweden. Listen to it if you ever get the chance.

Wonderful stuff! One of my favourite instruments and what an acoustic! Met Francis Jackson when he gave a recital on the Dundee Caird Hall 0rgan last year. Not only is he a supremely skilled musician but a true gentleman, too. Memorable occasion. Long may he continue to play.

Thanks for that info. Cryin' shame indeed. To me this piece is as mature as the best of Bach's major works. The texture may be slightly thinner than, say, the Weimar compositions, but still superb. Must try to find the music and see what I can do.

The use of the Voix Humaine certainly brings out the parts well. Don't think I'd risk it with a typical English Vox Humana, though! Most enjoyable. Thanks.

This is very very good indeed. Superb playing and acoustics plus tempo which is just right. Not much more I could ask . . .

Sound has a metallic edge to it which I found distracting. Reminds me slightly of an out-of-tune Wurlitzer. I think Bach deserves better. Sorry.

Wonder if the performer has a bus to catch or something. Never heard this piece so rushed before. Always thought the laid-back nature of the subject needed a relaxed tempo. Not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

Another of Bach's matchless pieces. The pedal part does seem slightly detached from the rest of the music, though. Perhaps adding another 8 ft stop would help to bridge the gap. Apart from that, some nice sounds here. Tempo fine by by standards.

A great piece! Difficult, too, but beautifully executed. Does the organ sound as good through the speakers as it does here? I know that many electronic organs are let down by inadequate speakers and I assume here that this recording is a direct input. Most are ok played quietly but become coarse ...

Sounds like the Cavaille-Coll in the Basilica of St Sernin, Toulouse!! Lovely sound and supreme playing. I've heard many electronic organs and this one just carries all before it! Love to have this set-up in my house.
