@binturong1000 - Good grief! Don't they teach history in school anymore? New Mexico (and Arizona) became states in 1912. President Taft signed New Mexico's proclamation on 6 Jan 1912 at 11:35am. Arizona's was signed on 14 Feb 1912. And by the way, you spelled Albuquerque wrong.

I think she meant the first case *this year*. We usually have at least one case of human plague and several cases of animal (wild and domestic) here in New Mexico every year. And we don't get all cockahoop about it either.

2 human cases and 6 domestic animal cases so far this year.
