Videos, live performances, interviews from Guinean artist N'Deye who mixes her native mandingo music with hip hop and pop
About Me:
Since 2 years now, date of her first album release on the Guinean market, the experimental "Les Maitres de la Parole" ("The masters of words"), tribute to her childhood's "griots", N'Deye is considered as the link between old and new generations of Guinean music.
Using hip-hop's sampling technique (on top of traditional mandingo music, N'Deye grew up listening to her father's Motown records and lots of mainstream as well as hardcore hip-hop), "Les Maitres de la parole" refreshed the mandingo pop that Sekou Bembeya Diabate and his Bembeya Jazz National made popular in the 60's.
It led her to a very unique brand of "hip-pop", urban and yet with strong african accents.
With a gift for songwriting, she writes lyrics in both english and french that remind us of Lauryn Hill's politically conscious songs, Beyonce's intricate and playful wording and french singer's Barbara's poetic and storytelling style.
Years of modeling have given her an image with a strong appeal both on and off stage.
N'Deye, heiress to the famed Amazones of Guinea, opens new horizons for African music.
