My name is "J" and I was recruited to swim for a Big 10 college in 2007. Recently, one of my team mates tested positive for a health supplement tainted with NCAA banned and impermissible substances (caffeine and amino acids.) He never for one moment tried to dope or game the system prior to a match. He was doing what we all do - taking a legal supplement produced by a well-known brand as part of his daily health routine. No big deal.

Big Deal.

This split-second decision will most likely cost him a year of eligibility.

"The dumb jock should have been more careful." Right?

The powerful, infallible NCAA certainly rests its case on this position. Unfortunately, the majority of the NCAA's anti-drug policy - which is well-meaning - targets 18-year-old Vitamin Water loving student athletes who don't happen to have a lot of expertise in chemistry, food science, law or bullshit. BTW, in VitaminWater's 2008 SuperBowl commercial starring Shaquille O'Neal, the voiceover promotes the NCAA band substance, Taurine. NCAA is a sponsor of the NCAA and has several banned flavors.

Here's the kicker: because the NCAA's anti-doing policy appears to be working - i.e., it successfully catches "dopers," there's no need to fix it. Shucks, the NCAA Doping Czars must be high-fiving and sipping Vitamin Water from expensive champagne glasses.

Please help me raise awareness of this issue - YouTube style.

Watch the video (made by a few film school students). Leave comments that include niceties like, "you pricks need to get your heads out of your asses."
