What puzzles me since I first saw this in the early Eighties was why Eric asks such an easy question. Anyone who has seen "Casablanca" 50 times, as the guy claims, would know it instantly. Even if he'd seen it half that amount... Did the screenwriter assume this was obscure? Oh well...

This scene is in no way "nonsensical"~unless you're totally clueless about legends/mythology. It makes complete sense to most of us. Nonsensical: I don't think you know the meaning of the word if this is how you use it.

That fantastic song is "Sing Sing Sing", written by Louie Prima and later to be one of THE Big Band hits. It's amazing that he wrote it in the mid-'30s, as I recall; it seems to have set a pattern for the BB sound.

The kitten is being territorial, growling at you for getting too close to the food then doing the same to the other kitten. We have kittens and cats who do the same thing. The kitten is saying, "You're invading my personal space." Or, more briefly: "MINE! MINE! MINE!"
