He is my "ROCK"
He is my "KEY"
ROQUE (roc-key) is her name.
When you meet ROQUE, the words "shy" and "quite" will not come to mind. Magnetic? Yes! Dynamic? For sure! Energetic? Absolutely!!! She's fun and festive, bold and spirited.
Roque is re-emerging as both singer and songwriter and is quickly rising to the top. Perseverance, creativity and a strong will are qualities that have led to her debut album produced by Steve Wimberly launching in the spring of 2011, affectionately entitled L.F.C. Loud for Christ, manifesting Roc's inspirational lyrics, soulful and angelic vocals setting the stage for her debut single "Thank You".
Praising the Lord for his uncompromising goodness is the centerpiece of this release. Packing a winning knockout punch from beginning to end this album proves Roque's versatility as well as her love for writing and true musicianship. L.F.C. Loud for Christ is a powerful and inspiring, collection of songs that communicates brilliantly the love of God, his agape love.
Roque is no stranger to the spot light. Performing is at the core of Roc's heart from her early youth, when she practiced at home singing such songs as Natalie Cole's "Our Love" and Barbra Streisand's "Memories", to guest performing at local talent and governmental events with a crowd pleasing rendition of Jennifer Holliday's "And I am Telling You".
Roque began singing professionally at the tender age of seven and as her career blossomed, so did the richness of her voice and the strength of her stage presence. A gifted performer at the age of thirteen, Roque landed a unique opportunity to showcase her talent on Ed McMahon's Star Search, where she was awarded the distinction of being Star Search's Best Teen Vocalist and Best Teen Performer. Soon after, Roc was chosen, from many aspiring child stars, for Disney's New Mickey Mouse Club (MMC) as the first African-American female to join the cast. With 95 episodes to her credit, she soars among the elite list of superstar alumni (Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears). Afterwards, Roque returned to her musical theater roots playing the lead role in the Broadway workshop musical for Ntozake Shange's Betsey Brown.
As Roque's career flourished, she caught the attention of several label executives and eventually signed her first record deal with Irving Azoff of Giant Records/Warner Bros. A few years after the dissolution of Giant Records which left her on hiatus during this time, Roque moved on to A&M Records, and then eventually to Jimmy Iovine's, Interscope Records. After years of a career fraught with dissolutions and mergers, Roque decided to take a break. In this time she discovered other facets of the industry, which broadened her perspective of the entertainment business and her life. Roc is a multi-talented young lady, as an actress, her past television and film credits include appearances on the sitcom, The Parkers and starring roles in the feature films Nora's Hair Salon and Color of the Cross 2: The Resurrection.
Roque says, "These experiences I've had in life have been wonderful and more than I've ever imagined. I've had the great fortune to record, collaborate, and work with several up and coming and well established producers, songwriters and executives, some of whom are today's A list in the industry.
In addition to her work in Music, Television, and Film, Roque began working behind the scenes in the early 2000's with her long time business partner establishing a successful talent management and artist development company, managing actors, singers, writers and producers. Other roles Roc's taken on in her career are as film producer and aspiring author. Roc's curiosity keeps her working in many facets of the entertainment industry. Roque's mission is to reach the hearts of children, men and women around the world with the word of God through music, film and television.
Like the twists and turns of a mountain road, Roque's life has held its share of unexpected moments - some exhilarating, some terrifying, and many simply beautiful to behold. Leaning solely on her faith in the sovereignty of God, Roque "Roc-Key" has learned that no matter what comes around the next corner; it's going to be an amazing road ahead.
