Xtreme Entertainment's Women of Soul Concert 2005 featuring Shanice, Sheila E., Chante Moore, Tamia, Deborah Cox & Kelly Price. Amazing show...but this was probably the surprise performance of the evening!!! I was standing backstage as this unfolded, unable to give props as loud and animated as I would have if I were in the audience. I love both of these women. Originally this song was performed by Whitney and Deborah, but for the rare performance, Deborah takes Whitney's part and Tamia takes what was originally Deborah's. Again, CLASSIC, TOP DIVA PERFORMANCE!!!!

AHHHHH!!
My favorite Paris Bennett performance!
I love the heavy swanky saxophone in the beginning; it just set the tone for what was coming up.
And Paris stepped out in her Banana Dress with a flower in her hair and was 'it.'
Looking at the other performances that night, this is one of the few that stood out.
And, like most other nights, it was one of the more memorable performances.
Apparently the American idol contract keeps a griplock on the contestants, controlling what they sing and what kind of album they produce.
For example, Nikki McKibbin was told she was going to sing 'Country Music' rather than go the 'Rock' route she wanted. The creative 'indifferences' led to no CD; and her debut album just recently came out (in May).
Ryan Starr didn't like where she was being pushed, so she decided to wait out her contractual obligations so she could do the kind of music she wanted (hence, she is just NOW finishing her Rock album, and just NOW peddling her reality show).
So it's either you do what they tell ya, or you don't do anything for the next 5 years.
Hopefully Paris' Debut album was just some sort of Idol Fluke; maybe her next album will include stuff like this.
It's something new.
And Lord knows we need more of that in this world.

Paris Bennett auditioned and I thought to myself: SHE'S the one I'm voting for this season.
I found her overall persona charming and her little voice cute.
Her singing voice was original and bluesy.
I don't think she ever had on 'off' night in my eyes (well, ears).
I had gotten so used to Paris doing songs from past decades, that it hadn't crossed my mind whether or not she could pull off modern pop; I could've listened to her sing the old stuff all day.
However, I was REALLY impressed with this one.
She could've easily mimicked Beyonce, but chose (much to her and 'our' benefit) to re-work it a bit.
She made the make the song her own. She shook booty. She whipped her hair around and nearly poked out an eye with her chains.
But Simon, of course, had to be the stickler and compare her to Beyonce, (an arist he can't stand).
He once told Esquire Magazine:
"I find the whole Beyonce thing really mystifying. She's not sexy, she hasn't got a great body and she's not a great singer."
Hm...
(cough) Jerk (cough)
I loved the original, and now I love it even more because of Paris.
I hate the puff though.
I think it's one of the ugliest hairstyles ever.
And she should've won... you all know it's true.

This is the second (of two) Movie in a Minute (MIAM) project movies ever made, and in my opinion the better one. There were over 1000 frames shot for this movie, and as with the first one, it was shot entirely in one day - to tape - on a little, crappy 1-chip panasonic camera. Shot in faux widescreen to give me less workable space (the only time I've ever wanted *less* screen real estate).
Again full of stupid observational jokes, but far fewer Star Wars references (unlike Stargate MIAM which was chock full of Star Wars references).
Because I had no blonde Lego hair (and STILL don't) I had to use some odd knock-off that my sister had, and since it was so stupid looking, I had to cast Ellie Sattler as the dumb blonde - Wow! being her only line in the movie! My apologies to Laura Dern, who I think was wonderful in the role, and to Michael Crichton who wrote Ellie as a strong and independent woman. But, as a Movie in a Minute, some things had to be sacrificed for the greater (or lesser) good. Much like how Muldoon, Ellie and Ian all drive into the control room - I had written them getting there, but never envisioned how it would be shot. That was what ended up happening. And for those of you who might ask - yes, that T-rex action figure has no arms. They both broke off at different points during its life. So sad.
Hope you enjoy.
