Grant Green - Born To Be Blue
Grant Green - Born To Be Blue
On BORN TO BE BLUE Green joins the legendary rhythm players Sonny Clark, Sam Jones, and Louis Hayes and the always-spectacular tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec. The date features mostly standards on which Green, Quebec, and Clark delight in tearing up the familiar changes. Quebec particularly shines as he takes as much spotlight as the leader with expertly swinging solos and smoky ballad leads. Green, of course, is in top form, nimbly dancing around his six-string like a featherweight fighter tempting his opponent. Standout tracks include the opening reading of "Someday My Prince Will Come," the unforgettable title tune that features Quebec in one of his most emotive performances, Al Jolson's snappy "Back In Your Own Backyard," and "Cool Blues," one of the few Charlie Parker tunes Green ever recorded.
Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on December 11, 1961 and March 1, 1962.
Released on CD :October 25, 1990

Charles Aznavour - 20 Supersucessos
20 Supersucessos is a nice collection of several hits from Charles Aznavour's heyday as well as a bit of his later work such as "A Contre Amor" from his 1992 album '92.
Besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the most well-known singers in the world. He is known for his characteristic short figure and unique tenor voice; clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravely and profound low notes. He has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1,000 songs (including at least 150 in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German), and sold well over 100 million records.
He is often described as the "Frank Sinatra of France".
