About Me:

12 Year-old Magnus LaDue is an advanced student of mathematics, music, computer science, English, and Latin.

As a 7 year-old home-schooled second grader, he completed both algebra and trigonometry, and he discovered an exact algebraic formula for the sine of 1 degree. While just 8 years old and in the third grade, Magnus completed three semesters of Calculus. As a 9 year-old fourth grader, he completed Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. In his first semester of fifth grade Magnus completed courses in Complex Variables and Mathematical Reasoning. While in the fifth and sixth grades, Magnus completed courses in Real Analysis, Number Theory, and Java Programming. Currently in the seventh grade, he is studying Topology, Abstract Algebra, Algorithms, Advanced Java Programming, English Composition, Latin, and Human Evolution. Magnus is an experienced user and programmer of the Mathematica scientific computing environment, and he is an expert at solving Rubik's cubes of all sizes from 3x3x3 to 7x7x7.

On May 7, 2008 Magnus (then only 8 years old) took the Calculus BC Advanced Placement Exam offered by the College Entrance Examination Board. He is the youngest student ever to have taken an Advanced Placement Exam, since these exams normally are taken by the nation's brightest high school juniors and seniors.

On July 14, 2008 we learned that he made the highest possible score of 5, a brilliant and stunning intellectual achievement for an 8 year-old. This means that he is "Extremely Well Qualified" in Calculus, and almost every college in the United States will award him two semesters of credit for it.

In December of 2008 Magnus discovered an error in one of the Laplace transforms in the CRC Standard Mathematical Tables and Formulae. The incorrect result appears in formula 36 on p. 607, and this error was previously undiscovered. Magnus proposed two possible corrections to the editor.

In May of 2009 Magnus discovered an error in one of the Fourier series in the CRC Standard Mathematical Tables and Formulae. The incorrect result appears in formula 1.4.4(k) on p. 52, and Magnus submitted a correction to the editor. Both of Magnus' corrections have been accepted by the editor of the CRC Tables, and they will appear in future editions of this venerable reference.

Magnus has studied Music Theory at the college level for over 6 years. He has completed the texts Harmony and Voice Leading by Aldwell and Schachter, Tonal Harmony by Kostka and Payne, Counterpoint by Kennan, Foundations of Diatonic Theory by Johnson, Materials and Techniques of Twentieth-Century Music by Kostka, Analysis of Twentieth-Century Music by Williams, Introduction to Post-tonal Theory by Straus, and Analysis of Tonal Music: A Schenkerian Approach by Cadwallader and Gagne. Magnus is currently studying applications of Group Theory and Topology to the analysis of music at the graduate level.

On May 10, 2010 Magnus (then only 10 years old) took the Advanced Placement Exam in Music Theory offered by the College Entrance Examination Board, and he made the highest possible score of 5 once again. This means that he is "Extremely Well Qualified" in Music Theory, and many colleges in the United States will award him two semesters of credit for it.

Magnus is also an advanced student of Data Structures, Algorithms, and the Java programming language. He took the Advanced Placement Exam in Computer Science on May 3, 2011, and he scored another 5. The College Board has recognized his achievement with an AP Scholar Award. At the age of 11 Magnus became America's youngest AP Scholar.

Magnus is the winner of a gold medal in the 2009 AADGT International Young Musician Competition. He performed Chopin's Etude in G# Minor (Op. 25, No. 6) in the winners' recital at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City on May 24, 2009.

In addition to his musical and academic interests, Magnus enjoys bicycling 60 to 75 miles each week on trails in the greater DFW area. He also enjoys playing with his four cats (Gigi, Garfield, Macavity and Mr. Mistoffelees).

This is page 15 of Albert Einstein's manuscript for his 1925 paper "Quantentheorie des einatomigen idealen Gases." Page 2 of this celebrated paper predicts the existence of a new state of matter now called the Bose-Einstein condensate.
