About The Muses of Terpsicorps
About The Muses of Terpsicorps and Center Stage Dance Studio, Michele Lee, Artistic Director...
Since 1979, Center Stage Dance Studio has provided superior, diversified dance education under the direction of Michele Lee, her talented staff and esteemed guest instructors. The Center Stage Performing Company was founded in 1996 to offer elite dancers expanded opportunities to learn and perform at conventions and competitions throughout the southeast. The studios newest program, The Muses of Terpsicorps, allows their ballet students the opportunity to perform demanding classical and contemporary works coached by Terpsicorps Theatre of Dances artistic director, Heather Maloy. The Muses is geared towards the serious student with dreams of becoming a professional dancer.
Since Maloy came to the studio as the main ballet instructor in 2004, the studio's ballet students have flourished. Ten of their students have been accepted into the UNCSA high school dance department, one on scholarship at Boston Conservatory, two into Florida State Dance Dept, one on scholarship at George Washington University and two into the Alvin Ailey School. Eight years into teaching, her first students to go on to professional companies are beginning this year at Pacific Northwest Ballet, Miami City Ballet and Lydia Johnson Dance Company in NY.
The close tie that Center Stage has with Terpsicorps brings with it many benefits for their students. The summer ballet workshop offers opportunities to see professionals rehearse and to take classes with the troupe and perform during the Terpsicorps outreach matinee for disadvantaged youth.
Young students have had small roles in Terpsicorps performances over the years and four former Center Stage students have returned to Asheville to perform with Terpsicorps as apprentices.
For information on becoming a member of the Center Stage family and to register for classes call 828-654-7010.
