About this user
Okay... I have to fill this in finally..
The background to the channel will give you an idea of my interests... that would be physics obviously... but specifically the attributes of Richard Buckminster Fuller's carbon 60 (at the time) but now carbon nanotubes and nanotechnology...
Fuller gave the world a whole new outlook on carbon... the ability to mold it to serve humanity...since its discovery huge advances in nanotech have come about. However in the very near future (next couple of decades) there will be an explosion of advances from this field... it will truly revolutionize farming, manufacturing, design, medicine and almost every material we use for almost everything...
Apart from my boring day job I'm also a programmer... I use ASP, Php, Apache, Linux, Mysql, c++ and more recently ROR...
I play poker... and I'm not too bad at it either. I'm not professional but thats because its a hobby...and I'm attracted to it mathematically. Which is why I appreciate games played by Ferguson and Bloch..... plus its a night out.
I also value logic and reason as a methodology for forming a model of how the universe works. This means for example that I'm atheistic. Why? well obviously it'd be pretty hard to think an idea was a valid one if there was absolutely no evidence for it, and the only information available pointed conclusively to the opposite. Thats not exactly the best way to make a decision. People end up dead using processes like that!
And religion is all about showing there is no evidence 'against' there being a god... nobody ever provides any actual evidence FOR the idea... But you can do that with anything except the logically impossible. Unfortunately for the God Idea its supporters are not actually aware that their God is logically impossible.
Anyway no fairies or stupidity... and thats what the information we have gathered so far says...And theres no point in arguing any different. Unless of course you are the first person ever to manage to get gods phone number!
Next as I said I value reason, a lot. With reason one can make predictions. Without it you are simply 'guessing' . One can 'guess and be accurate, thats certainly not impossible. However, guessing all the time will make you massively less accurate than using logic, reason and knowledge. Lets put it this way, don't ever get into a poker game with 50 mathematicians who will all use probability in their game. You might win... but the odds are not stacked in your favor. In fact they are not even 50:1!
Also I'm pretty much sick and tired of people somehow thinking that me asking them to justify a position is somehow ridiculing them... it is not... its asking them what led to the conclusion they have.
If you feel that this is ridicule then you seriously need to examine what you think is real....because if someone asking you how you arrived at a conclusion is interpreted as ridicule... well that can't be a very stable conclusion can it?
So in a debate if someone asks for clarification or an explanation. Do not hide behind a notion that your opinion is sacred... its not, no opinion is sacred and above reproach.
That said there are opinions...then there are demonstrable facts... So a ball remains spherical despite my opinion of its shape. And all factual things will remain factual despite someones 'belief' or 'opinion' of them. Some things are simply not open to interpretation...
Lastly I have an extremely low tolerance for people with a low intellect which came about due to their own actions. Lets call it a failing of mine... but if you deliberately have hobbled your own knowledge of the world, your own ability to reason and have no intention of correcting that then you are talking to the wrong person... I get paid to teach people... I'm not likely to give freeloading morons anything but the middle finger!
In other words yes there really is an unequal spread of knowledge in this 'age of information'
1. There are those WITH access to information who avail of it.
2. Those with no access to information.
3. Those WITH access to information who simply refuse to avail of it.
4. Then there are morons...those WITH access to information, who not only refuse to use it but strategically avoid it... not only that but they then insist that the information they DON'T have somehow gives their opinion an equal footing with others that do... they might have no information about biology for example...yet somehow think their opinion is valid when compared to say a biologists... no its not!
The last two types of people I have no time for... they are plain lazy.
