The ultimate gent and lady of the silver screen, Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn were both immortalised in our hearts and minds in the beautiful romance that is Roman Holiday.
We all know the film, princess yearns for a normal life, runs away from the palace and bumps into a handsome chap, and they spend the rest of the day having fun. But all good things come to an end, and the finale of this film is perhaps one of the saddest, cutest but best endings ever filmed.
Peck is not only a gent onscreen, for offscreen he was so impressed with newcomer Audrey, he was so sure that she was going to be one of the greatest stars, he insisted that producers gave her top billing, and tipped her for an Oscar. Peck's kindness paid off, when Audrey won her first and only Oscar for Best Actress.
This film is one of my all time favs, and so is this song. Weekend in New England by Barry Manilow. Yes I know the film is set in Rome not New England, and it only lasts a day not a weekend, but the rest of the lyrics are so fitting for the romance, it just had to be done.
So enjoy guys!!

This a Natalie Wood video based on her 1958 film "Marjorie Morningstar", where Natalie played a young Jewish aspiring actress who falls in love with an older man while working at summer camp, a fellow camp's theatre director, aspiring Broadway playwright and producer Noel Airman (Gene Kelly). But Marjorie's family objects to him and their summer romance is ill-fated and volatile, and when Marjorie realizes that Noel isnt really going anywhere in life and he is better off without her, doing what he loves instead of conforming to a profession her parents deem as "suitable", it dawns on her that Noel's former assistant and now successful playwright Wally Wronkin (Martin Milner) has loved her all along. While it's not one of Natalie's best-remembered films, it is a very bittersweet story and Natalie's performance is outstanding. Music by The Carpenters. Enjoy!

Another funny Gidget fantasy, this time from "Gidget Goes To Rome" (1963). Gidget, on a trip to Rome with her steady Moondoggie (James Darren) and friends, finds herself as well as her friends Lucy (Noreen Ccrcoran) and Libby (Trudy Ames) dismayed at the attention that the guys are paying the lovely Italian guide, Daniella (Danielle de Metz). Gidget finds herself "fiddling with history" when she overhears Moondoggie tell Daniella who she reminds him of in Roman history. So Gidget imagines herself as a Christian martyr rescued by a studly Roman (Moondoggie, of course). Only to be snapped out of her daydream by Judge (Joby Baker). While this isn't the best of the three theatrical Gidget films, it's entertaining in its own right - and James Darren in an ancient Roman uniform - what more could you ask for? There's also beautiful Italian scenery to look at. Enjoy!
(My apologies to the people I sent the original upload of this to before. I realized that the reason why the dialogue was so hard to hear is because I forgot to select the "video only" option for the video. So this one is improved over the old one).

Pip and Estella, from childhood meetings to their complicated, distant lives.
Music is L-L-Love by Blondfire.
Pip is a poor child, brought to entertain the mentally disturbed Miss Havisham who is raising Estella, a girl she says is her niece. Pip falls in love with Estella even though Miss Havisham is raising her not to feel real love for any man, only to use her charm and beauty to get what she wants.
As adults, their paths cross again and Pip expresses his love for Estella. Though not trying to hurt Pip, she instead chooses to marry a young man whom Pip despises.
Pip later finds out Estella's husband is abusive, and later she leaves him and files for legal seperation. Back from London after being in debtor's prison, Pip goes to Miss Havisham's house, though she is now deceased. He finds Estella inside who has been given the home. The end of the film and book are open-ended. Estella feels she cannot act upon her love for Pip but doesn't wish for him to leave her either. For this video, I made the ending a bit clearer--that Estella finally is able to reciprocate Pip's love.
This is from the 1998 Masterpiece Theatre (BBC America WGBH Boston) production of Great Expectations. In the American version, Pip is known as Finn.
