About Me:
I have lived in Israel for twenty years, but still consider England my home.I am married with one son.
Don't judge people by their name, or anything else. I won't allow any racism or religious intolerance on my channel comments .
I am Protestant religion.
I write novels and short stories, and co-wrote an opera and requiem. When I become obsessed with a subject, I really get obsessed for years.
I have sold many of my paintings...
But I have yet to show ALL of my paintings and drawings of Joseph, because, apparently, it is upsetting to show his face, or any other part of him. I have only been able, so far, to show the two paintings of him wearing his hat and veil.
I dont care what anyone thinks of them - I know what's in my heart when I paint him...
Thankyou!
I WELCOME ANY QUESTIONS YOU WISH TO ASK ABOUT JOSEPH. IT'S MY PLEASURE TO TALK ABOUT HIM , AND TO SHARE HIS REAL LIFE STORY- SO FEEL FREE TO POST A QUESTION ON MY CHANNEL PAGE.
I admire Joseph Merrick with all my heart, and it is not my intention to offend anyone.
I would be proud to share his name, and to be associated in any way with such a wonderful, brave and inspiring man.
He was sweet and kind, and deeply religious, and I can only imagine how his belief must have been a great comfort to him.
I just wish he had found someone to love him, just as he wanted and deserved so very much. He could only speak of his dreams of love in his gentle heart, and through his creative imagination.
This, above everything else, touches me so very deeply.
The little photograph I use is not a random Victorian photograph, but was taken in 1877, and is from my own family. It would be lovely to think that Joseph may have found a young lady such as this who would have offered her heart to him.
He was a beautiful man in every single way.
Please respect my sincere feelings about him.
''...I should like to say a few words of thanks to all those that came forward after my case was made known...I have a nice bright room, made cheerful with flowers, books and pictures. I am very comfortable, and I may say as happy as my condition will allow me to be.
'' ''Tis true my form is something odd,
But blaming me is blaming God:
Could I create myself anew
I would not fail in pleasing you.
'' 'If I could reach from pole to pole
Or grasp the ocean with a span,
I would be measured by the soul;
The mind's the standard of the man.' '' - written by Joseph Merrick while he was resident at the London Hospital.
Thanks.

Wearing his cloak and hat, I imagine Joseph taking his evening walk. I wish I'd been with him to keep him company...

Hello! Thankyou very much as always for the kind comments....Yes, I also fill up the cat bowl in the evening, but its never enough!! Miffy wakes me up every morning at about 4.30 - 5 for food( I have to stand nearby) and then to open the front door to let her out. Sometimes she just sticks her head out the door, looks around, then comes back inside...then wakes me up again just when Im dozing off to make me open the door again! So I understand all your stories with naughty Tomy!...Anyway, Im going to sleep now(Miffy sleeps on the cushion nearby), so thankyou again, and take care always, hugs and xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxalways, Ann

Hell! I am always thinking of you too, even if we dont chat - thanks very much for you messge! Ive only just got up...Miffy also wakes me up about 5, for the friskies and to go out, then I sleep again and wake up a bit late - esp as its cold here in the mornings too!! Im glad Tomy is keeping up to his naughty tricks because that means hes happy and well! Here, all's the same. I have to think what to put in the exhtbition, if Im doing a new special painting, putting everything in it as I do, I'll have to start this week. The subject is not suitable for me, but I thought to do Joseph and the pantomime - but how when I cant show his face???I will be thinking about this...Anyway enjoy your Gerryvids! I will watch the vid later to relax, I havent time now. Take care, love and hugs alwaysxxxxxxxxxxxAnn

...allowed Norman to visit Joseph while he lived permanently at the Hospital. And when Norman took Joseph's side after he refused to go to the Hospital for more of those humiliating public exams in front of Treves eminent colleagues( before Joseph lived at the Hosp), Treves really got angry. Its said it was Treves that got the authorities to close down the Whitechapel show...In Treves' writings he does make some mistakes, some just probably genuine, not obviously ''hateful'' like that about Norman. For eg. when he first saw Joseph he didnt wear the cloak and veiled hat, though Treves describes it at that point, when it was later the hat was specially made for Joseph. He saw him in a coat, hat and scarf - which was wrapped around Josephs face...I dont think Bytes first name's ever mentioned in the film - I'd have to check!

What I meant was, the Bytes character seems to be based on what Treves wrote in his Reminiscences. Wrongly, Treves describes, on first seeing Joseph, how Norman spoke to Joseph as though to a dog, and gave the impression that he ill- treated Joseph. Of course this is completely untrue - Norman was kind to him and respected Joseph. He was initially appalled at seeing Joseph, and at first didnt want to employ him ( perhaps he felt he was exploiting him??) - but Norman saw how desparate Joseph was to work, and took the risk in employing him...It's clear that Treves and Norman( in reality) had ''issues. Treves never...

... which I know personally has upset has least one of Norman's descendants - this should be put right! Also that Joseph's mother never loved him and abandoned him - which is just not true. She really was an angel for him...Theres a lot to discuss! Of course I can imagine if youve only just watched a bit, that Bytes beating Joseph is really upsetting - but whats worse is that his father really did. How could he do that, his own son, and looking as Joseph did? It's beyond words....You say a bit more about what parts moved you, or even angered you now, and I'll respond. :):)

Hello! I've actually got the film downloaded into my computer!!! But seriously, the film raises lots of conflicting feelings. Of course, its wonderful that the film brought Joseph's story to a world-wide audience, and there are some moments in it which you really feel that youre witnessing a part of Joseph in real - the little scene for eg with the dressingcase is lovely, while of course sad too, knowing Joseph actually did pretend to himself like that that he was ''a man about town''...But I feel some scenes were invented for further pathos and totally unnecessary, and just sadistic in my opinion - I think you know the ones. And of course some bits werent correct just because the film was based on Treves Memoirs, and they were in places not correct, or embellished. His slur upon Tom Normanin his treatment of Joseph is terrible, and this is transplanted into the film via the Bytes character...
