@lomparti they are belt driven with cyntrifical clutches, so i gues simply, yes they are single speeds. when you hit a higher rpm, the secondary clutch "shifts" it into a higher "gear".

the noise is this- the oil pump is gear driven off of the back of the clutch sheave. the oil also lubes the pump, so the pump is running dry and is a mechanical mechanism

no shit. I have a 73 lynx 340 with a can on it that I race. I also have had yamaha 340s before, and they aint that loud. WHAT i meen is that it is louder than the normal yamaha 338 cc 2 stroke twin cylinder oil injected motor with a stock exhaust system.
