I don't like this episode. It feels wrong that they took the money after he had just died. I know they are criminals but I like the fact they have a "code" they follow. This just seemed out of character for them.

The ticket has to be fed into the machine that reads it. If the machine is saying "Winning ticket" or words to that effect, then that should be a clue. He didn't make the cashier "see" something else on the display.
