SO you're using Finite difference compact schemes with artifical diffusion?
What kind of shock sensor are you using?
Have you considered weno finite difference/central schemes.? THeyre usually faster and well suited for LES. with strong shocks.

Iam guessing the plotting tool "Visit" was used to make these movies but iam not sure. Its nice how one can clearly see the wortical structures getting more stretched out as they pass through the normal shock.
