Lot's fly in to this airstrip..... not many fly back out...!!!

Only three sailors survived the sinking of H.M.S Hood... one of them was called Ted Briggs, he was the lone survivor when he sadly passed away in September 2008. He only lived approx 15 miles from my home. (Am sure he is now sharing a tot of rum with his old shipmates that all died on that day) ....

Am glad I was not a young man in 1916... my local graveyard is full of headstones of young soldiers that fought in that conflict. In fact many more world war 1 headstones than world war 2 one's....

@wotan20 You are correct in every detail... it's such a pity that so many young men perished or were captured on this raid... My understanding is that nearly a thousand active 8th air force crew were written off as captured or killed on this one raid.

This Tiger tank is unique because it is the only Porche turreted Tiger 2 that has survived. I'm impressed with the accuracy regards the tanks and assault guns used in this film. Finding an early war T34 can't have been easy... or a KV1 for that matter. The Stugs are fantastic..!!!

As a young lad I heard it was called "The widow maker"... and assumed that meant it made a lot of the enemies wives widows. England... and London in particular have had to put up with terrorism for decades... in 1940, during the blitz London was bombed over 100 nights in a row... in 1944... we were the recipients of the V1 flying bombs (first cruise missiles).. then the dreaded V2... lets now skip to the 1970's and 80...
