@kaltblut This is the real thing. This version was 1,000 times better than the 1984 version, including the musical theme. For me , the Murray version is anodine.

I prefer Handel's bass arias rather than Bach's. For me they are more powerful than mystical.

Wha? Toscanini recording this work? I never knew him being a Handelian. I do not recall any other interpretations of Handel by him. He always paid attention to the compositions of the Romantics and sometimes, to the Viennese Classical school (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven ).

A minor detail... the music of Vivaldi was almost totally unknown at this time (beginning of the nineteenth century) and he was laying and decaying in a pauper's tomb in Vienna since 1741. They could not have played his music.
