Michael L. Jackson, USC vice president for student affairs, addressed the topic of "What Matters to Me and Why" on February 1, 2012.
Jackson has been vice president for student affairs and a professor of higher education in the USC Rossier School of Education for the past 16 years. Prior to his arrival at USC, he was dean of students at Stanford University.
At USC, Jackson and his colleagues in the Division of Student Affairs are responsible for programs and co-curricular learning and developmental opportunities that enrich the university experience for students outside the classroom. He also has overseen the construction of several residential colleges and the Ronald Tutor Campus Center as well as large-scale fundraising programs to support these construction projects.
Jackson received his B.S. in anthropology, with distinction, from Stanford University and his master's degree and doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
"What Matters to Me and Why" is a speakers' series that bridges the separation between intellectual life and personal and spiritual issues by having featured USC faculty and administrators spend about 20 minutes addressing the topic "What Matters to Me and Why," followed by an informal dialogue rounding out the hour.
The program is sponsored by the USC Office of Religious Life and the USC Levan Institute for Humanities and Ethics.
