Mr Cabel has been writing seriously since nineteen ninty one. He was a nineteen ninty nine Super Slam Finalist at the Why Not II Bar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he slammed for the first time. After a two year absence from the mic. He stumbled upon Fuzzy Wednsdays in Hampton, Virginia. In November two thousand one, he quickly became a crowd favorite by sharing poems from everyday life. He spits emotionally and spiritually charged words in an effort to share lessons he has learned. He has made a name for himself by performing at Urban Safari, The Underground, Breath Control at The Tidewter Grill (where he was a featured artist in March of two thousand three), Alice Mea's Soul Food Restaurant, Barnes & Noble and various venues in the Tidewater area. Also featured in Brown Sugar, a Poetic Valentine Celebration hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha at Christopher Newport University

Mr Cabel has evolved into a Spoken Word / Slam Artist competing in Virginia National Slam Team Finals and the third annual Word Up International Slam both in two thousand three hosted by Queen Sheba in Norfolk Virginia. Mr Cabel consistently scores in the high twenties to a perfect thirty. Once he received a better than perfect score in a theme slam by earning a bonus .2pts for a HIV awareness poem.
