I was a grad student at Colgate and worked with Mrs. Slater's husband, Joseph. I attended several of Mrs. Slater's performances and was tremendously impressed by her superb playing. Both she and Dr. Slater were wonderful people...much loved by the entire Colgate community.

I was in St. Sulpice on Easter Sunday a few years ago. What a thrill! M. Roth ended the service with a brilliant performance of the Franck Finale. I'll never forget it!

I agree that Alexander Schreiner's performance has always been the gold standard for me, but this is the only one that can compete...and of course, the recording quality is far better than it was 50 years ago. Even Columbia's engineers couldn't begin to deal with the full pow...

This short piece gives some idea of why Clarence Dickinson had such a sterling reputation...wonderful!

Hey...this is pretty cool! I had no idea Kabalevsky transcribed this. I'm an organist and learned this as a student. Played straight, it's kind of dull. This transcription really gives it some zip!

In the hands of a lesser organist, this transcription can sound almost grotesque. Not so with Mr. Trotter...

Well, this is certainly unlike any other performance of this piece that I've ever heard, and I suspect Franck himself would have been profoundly displeased, but in its quirky way, it has some appeal.

Much as I admire some of Guillou's playing, here he disappoints me. His tempi are all over the place, and the interpretation as a whole is so unpersuasive as to seem like indifferent sight-reading.

Perhaps an off day?
